We’ve seen him first as Danny Rayburn in the hit Netflix series Bloodline in which he won an Emmy. Then, we saw him as Director Orson Krennic in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Now, the Australian actor is adding another villain role in his resume and, this time, it will be on the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Ben Mendelsohn is currently in talks to play the main villain in Captain Marvel. There are no details as of this time regarding the character that he will play. It was announced during Comic-Con last July that the Skrulls will be the villains of the movie. There is huge possibility that he will play the leader of the Skrulls. In case you didn’t know, the Skrulls are a green-skinned extraterrestrial humanoid race that has created a vast interstellar empire, the oldest one known still in existence within the Andromeda Galaxy.
Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck will direct the film. They previously worked with Mendelsohn on their film Mississippi Grind. Brie Larson will play the titular superhero. Samuel L. Jackson is expected to reprise his role of Nick Fury. Like most MCU films, Kevin Feige will produce. Geneva Robertson-Dworet wrote the most recent draft of the script with Meg LeFauve and Nicole Perlman penning previous drafts.
The story of the film follows Carol Danvers, an Air Force pilot whose DNA is fused with that of an alien during an accident. The resulting alteration imbues her with the superpowers of strength, energy projection, and flight. The film is expected to be set during the ’90s.
Captain Marvel will be released in cinemas March 8, 2019.
