10 Things You Didn’t Know About Ben Geurens

There are many talented actors out there, and for the most part, we only know the ones we follow. If you happen to be into the historical-fantasy drama Reign, then you should know who deceased character Gideon Blackburn is and the actor who portrayed him, Ben Geurens. Geurens is not a name that you hear often in mainstream media, but those who have followed him and his career know that he’s one of the brightest young actors out there. Geurens has been around in the circle a while as well, and although Reign may be his biggest role to date, there’s a future for this star that’s going to be even bigger. Here are 10 things you probably didn’t know about actor Ben Geurens.

1. He’s Australian

We’ve gotten a lot of talented Australian actors cross over to the American movie and television industry, and Geurens is just one on the long list. Geurens was born in Melbourne in 1979.

2. He went to drama school

Much like many actors in the industry, Geurens graduated from drama school, Australia’s National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA), back in 2004 when he was 25 years old. He got a degree in the Performing Arts. Funny enough, he had already been acting prior to getting his degree. As a matter of fact, he started acting when he was very young, which we’ll talk about next.

3. He was in Neighbours

This was Geurens’ first gig, which he acquired back in 1990. He was only 11 years old at the time. He played the role of Toby Mangel, and he was in the show for 3 years up until 1993. His career didn’t slow down after that; instead, he kept on going up until 1996 when he took his first break in acting.

4. He took acting breaks

Having started in the industry early, it’s no surprise that Geurens took a few breaks in his career. The first time he took a break was in 1996 when he was 17 years old. He took a four-year break before doing a project in 2000, Blue Heelers. After Blue Heelers, he took another break until 2006 when he went back to acting full time.

5. He did Shakespeare

Part of his drama school experience was doing Shakespeare, and his school acting credits include parts on Romeo and Juliet and Much Ado About Nothing. Of course, he wasn’t limited to Shakespeare; he also did other plays, one of which was an original modern play by Reg Cribb called The Return.

6. He’s also a director and producer

Sometimes one is all it takes, and for Geurens, one director and producer credit might be enough for the experience. It’s for the 2013 short film, Lightbulb, a comedy about a young man’s life and work. There’s not a lot of information about the film, except for the fact that it was shown at the Petaluma Film Festival in Northern California.

7. He has a net worth of $1.5 million

It might not be much according to Hollywood standards, but it’s plenty enough for anyone to have a good life. He’s accumulated his money mainly from his various acting jobs, none of which were big blockbusters but were great nonetheless.

8. He has over 3,000 followers on Twitter

It doesn’t say much for the actor when it comes to his fans, but a 3,000 count isn’t quite Twitter-famous. His follower count might be due to the number of tweets that he has, which is only 573 up to this point.

9. He has 35.9k Instagram followers

Geurens does much better on his Instagram account follower-wise. It’s surely a better reflection on how active his fan base truly is. While only having just over 140 posts to his account, he’s managed to acquire such a number of active followers. His Instagram account is also the best way to see what his personal life is like outside of his work.

10. He’s a new dad

Him and his wife Kelly just had their first baby, and his wife Kelly was actually able to spend her first Mother’s Day this year. It was a beautiful experience for the couple, and Father’s Day is surely something that he must be looking forward to.
