Why The “Baller Wives” Are Here to Stay

Reality television has brought TV viewer every type of wife imaginable. The Real Housewives franchise has had a significant portion of the reality TV market for some time; however, VH1’s new reality show, Baller Wives, is looking to stake their claim to a piece of the Market. The show is executive produced by Kijafa and Michael Vick (Yes, that Michael Vick), who also stars in the series. The presence of this couple alone provides enough impetus for viewers to tune in, but it gets much better.

Kijafa serves as sort of a mother hen to the other wives on the show. As one of the executive producers and chief confidants on the show, she is privy to everyone’s dirt, and no one knows just how that is going to play out. What we do know is that Kijafa does not play and has no problem, whatsoever, engaging issues head on. In fact, one of the episodes involves her calling out her husband Michael Vick on something he said on national TV concerning a trending social and political topic. It does not take much for her to convince Vick that his original stance was not carefully thought out and he needs to do better.

Fortunately, Kijafa is not asked to carry the series. She has a number of baller wives with stories of their own to help bring the drama and intrigue to a fever pitch. Stacy Chambers is married to retired Miami Dolphins receiver, Chris Chambers, and the couple is currently expecting child number two. Stacey has a very nonconventional approach to life, which has led to an intense riff between her and Kijafa – leading to Stacey developing her own alliances within the group. These schisms are fertile soil for conflict on an ongoing basis, and we know that conflict on these types of shows is what keeps the ratings rising.

Miko Grimes, while being married to Tampa Bay cornerback, Brent Grimes, has her own career as a sports announcer on a local radio show. Unfortunately, she is currently attempting to redirect her broadcasting career after being released by her previous employer. Brent and Miko have been married for a little over seven years. One of the key issues connected to Miko is that she is dealing with the loss of her job during the shooting of the first season of the show, and it conflicts with Brent’s training schedule – meaning that he is absent a lot – placing a lot of pressure on her to figure things out on her own.

Two-time Super Bowl Champion, Asante Samuel, is currently attempting to start a new career as a professional boxer, and we know how that turned out for Herschel Walker. His wife, Jeniva is not at all happy about his new career choice after believing that the days of worrying about his safety were behind them. Kelly Jones and her husband, former Dallas Cowboy’s running back, Julius Jones, are dealing with the disappointment of their sons who have discovered that their father is against them playing football.

Now, try to fit all of this into an action packed hour in which the environment is primed with tension and explosions are on the horizon. Each of these wives lives remarkable lives that are intriguing, and when you place all of them on one set, you have enough heat to last for the foreseeable future.
