The process of elimination continues on tonight’s episode of America’s Got Talent. Twenty more acts compete for a spot in the third group of top seven acts. Emmy-nominated actress Laverne Cox serves as the guest judge. Will these twenty acts do better than their first auditions? Let’s find out.
Oscar Hernandez started things off by dedicating his performance to the guest judge. His routine was very well choreographed and entertained the judges. When he brought out a group of girls onto the stage as backup dancers, I was pleasantly surprised. Usually if there’s people helping acts get brownie points on the show, I would think it’s too much. Though in this case, it was quite entertaining.
Magician twins Tony and Jordan brought their digital magic show back and did some amazing tricks. Personally I do not think they have stepped it up since they went down the digital route before. I mean, there’s nothing wrong with sticking to what you know, but I feel that they could have incorporated a bit of what they did the first time around and make two people appear. Needless to say they did not make it to the top seven.
The other magician Jeki Yoo won the judges over with a close-up magic trick using playing cards. His laugh is adorable and like all magic acts, I have no idea how he did it. Maybe he should go to Penn and Teller’s show and perform his magic there. I rooted for him to make it to the top seven, but unfortunately, the Korean magician was sent home. Don’t give up, Jeki! You can come back next season!
Later in the episode, nine-year-old Celine Tam came onstage and delivered a mind-blowing performance. The little girl sang her rendition of the Michael Bolton classic How Am I Supposed to Live Without You. Laverne was so impressed by Celine’s voice that the actress pressed the golden buzzer, sending the girl straight to the live shows at the Dolby Theater. Now, only six spots remain. Who will be lucky enough to fill them?
When daredevil Bello Nock did his performance, I almost shielded my eyes in fear. The man fired himself out of a cannon and flew over a helicopter’s spinning blades. If he didn’t time it right, he would have died right then and there. I felt sorry for him when he didn’t get the chance to make it through to the top seven, but perhaps we may see him as a wild card if the show decides to do it again this season. Fingers crossed!
Preacher Lawson’s comedy routine was hilarious. The stand-up comedian talked about an experience he had when he dated a girl that he had met online. If I were sitting in the audience, I would be laughing my butt off. Shame he cut his act short. I would have loved to hear more jokes from him. Good thing he made it through to the top seven so yay, Preacher! Judge cuts conclude next week when twenty more acts compete for a spot in the fourth and final group of top seven acts. Singer-songwriter, and former husband to Heidi Klum, Seal will be the final guest judge.
Final Thoughts and Top Seven (Group 3):
Daniel Ferguson’s performance tonight was entertaining. He did impressions of Marge Simpson, Golem, and Howie Mandel’s character Bobby while singing Maroon 5’s hit song Sugar. Though entertaining, it wasn’t enough to get him a spot in the remaining six.
The Naked Magicians did not impress me one bit this evening. I was appalled that they were able to go through to the next round. The magic-performing duo once again used Tyra Banks as their assistant while they did their striptease/magic act. If looks could kill…
