The Amazon workout routine that was used for Wonder Woman is simply intense. Watching these women go at it, meaning lifting weights, doing insane cardio, and going through combat training was something quite special and no doubt led to a much more balanced movie that allowed Wonder Woman to be something unique and extremely well done. The level of fitness and training that these women had to go through is simply insane, but during the process it would seem that they really bonded and became a tighter group. It’s easy to assume that this would allow them to become more cohesive on set and less likely to snipe at each other since they’ve all been going through the same routine.
What’s really cool is realizing that every woman selected for this came from a different background in which fitness is still a big and central part of their normal routine. There are those that came from a Crossfit background, at least one police officer, a Wushu practitioner, bodybuilders, professional fitness models, and so on. That’s impressive since way too often in movies those that are selected for such roles don’t seem to have any background at all in anything resembling the film and as a result are not as effective. But as in 300, which was in some way the basis for the training regimen, the women were put through their paces in a way that would allow them to not only toughen themselves physically, but also mentally and socially. Most if not all of them appeared to be well-balanced in their ability to endure the training and to bond with their fellow cast members, but the experience surely helped them grow just a little more.
The Amazons are known throughout legend as being some of the toughest women alive, in fact they might actually be the epitome of what a woman could be in terms of physical, mental, and spiritual perfection. Amazons have been known widely throughout Greek mythology as some of the toughest and most war-like individuals throughout the world, but in Wonder Woman they are definitely ready for war, but still seek to maintain a peaceful society. Yet as in mythology their island home is untainted by men of any kind, whom a lot of them tend to think of as inferior it would seem. In the film it’s seen that men are often weak and in many cases much more flawed than the Amazons, as they are warriors in name only unlike the women that train all their lives to protect their home.
Watching them go through their paces I couldn’t help but be impressed by the lot of them as they endured every last moment of training that they had to go through in order to get ready for the movie. I don’t imagine they got paid a whole lot for their efforts but the chance to appear in a blockbuster movie would probably be worth it for some of them.
Plus the opportunity to keep in shape and earn a few new friends wouldn’t be a bad idea.
