If you cannot miss an episode of season 3 “Ex on The Beach”, then you must have noticed two ladies who look so much alike that you cannot tell them apart. Well, Allie Kaplan is the name of one of the ladies. Now that you know she is ready to get into a new relationship, W Magazine enlightens us more about the artist.
1. She has an identical twin sister
Some say that when you have a sister, you are guaranteed of having a best friend for life despite the many fights that you may have while younger. Allie Kaplan is among the lucky few who did not have to wait years for her parents to get her a sister because the day she was born, so was her sister, Lexi. The girls were born in New Jersey in 1993 and have become inseparable even in their adulthood.
2. She went to New York University
Allie was always excited about art ever since she was a child. Allie and her sister would go to museums after school and every Monday their mother would take them to view Broadway Shows. It is, therefore, no wonder that when it came to going to University Allie chose to get a degree in Fine Arts; majoring in painting and minoring in Art History. Her sister also did not depart from the path; Lexi received her degree in Fine Arts with a concentration in painting.
3. She draws her inspiration from Lynda Benglis
Everyone has a vision of where they would like to be in future. It helps to have someone you can look up to and principles you can abide by to help you reach your goal. Allie and Lexi have long been inspired by Lynda Benglis, especially the Artforum Ad in 1974 in which Lynda was promoting her exhibitions by being nude and holding a giant dildo. It’s therefore not a surprise that the girls have a thing for the Museum of Sex and are making a living from painting nude pictures of celebrities.
4. The first studio was in a boyfriend’s apartment
Relationships have their challenges, but when you have a supportive partner, then everything falls into place sooner or later. Allie was fortunate enough to land herself a boyfriend who supported her work. At the time, Allie and Lexi were dating boys who happened to be living together. Both boys were okay with helping out the twins pursue their art career. They, therefore, helped them set up their studio; it was in the basement of the boys’ apartment. Their dating life seems to be interesting. According to them, as revealed in Distractify when a man decides to date one of them, he better be ready to date both of them.
5. She is okay with nudity
There’s always someone who is an exception. While some of us cannot walk on the streets in shorts and a crop top because we are conscious of our bodies, others do not mind displaying what God gave them. Allie Kaplan, along with her sister Lexi made a painting of their breasts which was displayed in the “Make Me Famous” exhibition. “Make Me Famous” was the title of their show at De Re Gallery and what a way to make a statement than to show the world what is beneath their shirts.
6. The first major solo exhibition was when she was 23
At 23, you have barely decided what career path you want to take, and if you have, then you are laying the foundation and hoping things work out for the best. Allie got her big break at 23 when De Re Gallery, based in Los Angeles, agreed to represent her and her sister. The Gallery also granted the twins their first major solo exhibition which featured life-size and photorealistic nude celebrity pictures of people like Vanessa Hudgens and Amber Rose.
7. She and her sister often have twinned speech
Imagine every time you want to talk, and someone says what you were about to say. It can be annoying, but for Allie, she has become used to it. Allie and her sister are not only identical twins, but they also have twinned speech. Matter of fact is they almost always are in agreement of everything, and perhaps that is what led them to pursue the same degree. With their thinking alike, the twins finished each other’s assignments while in University.
8. Allie and her sister are mostly attracted to the female body
Women have been described as very complicated beings, and even philosophers have never understood what exactly it is that women want. However, one thing that we can all agree is that the female body is of fascination and artists never tire of exploring it. Allie is among the artists who have always been fascinated by the female body, and it is most likely the reason that pushes the twins to paint pictures of naked women.
9. She and her sister have thousands of followers on Instagram
Allie and Lexi are the ideal examples of “divided we fall but together we stand.” Each sister has about 5,000 followers on Instagram. However, they have a joint account and there, the followers are over 170,000. The fact that they are always together could play a part since that is when they influence them the most.
10. She does not mind profiting from other people’s bodies
Society views sex traffickers and pimps as immoral people who are continuously promoting decadence. Allie does not consider herself to be doing the community a disservice by painting celebrities in their birthday suits. According to the sisters, sexploitation is perfectly okay, and they are making quite a killing from it. After graduating, Allie and her sister began painting explicit images from leaked sex tapes among which was Kim Kardashian’s that was purchased by PornHub. The duo moved on to painting leaked nude selfies which they obtain from hacking. Although people like Jennifer Lawrence have termed the hacks as sex crimes, Allie is pocketing her money without feeling remorseful for the celebrity.
