10 Things You Didn’t Know about Alan Yang

Alan Yang seems to have followed a very decisive and no-nonsense path with his life. He wanted to be a writer so he became a writer. He wanted to be a comedy writer so he become a comedy writer. Chances are there were a few short-stops along the way but when all was said and done he got to where he wanted to be so you kind of have to admire his tenacity and dedication to what he wanted and his ability to go get it. So far in his career he’s won a few awards and made a very successful name for himself with the help of others and on his own talent. He’s risen to heights that a lot of people his age simply don’t attain so he has a lot to be proud of when it comes to his achievements. It almost makes a person jealous in a way, but then he had a much different goal in mind, so it’s easy to let it pass and focus on simply being impressed.

Here’s a few things you might not have known about him.

10. He’s a producer and a writer.

If you doubt that writing manages to become a part of everything we do in life then you need to take his example as a serious lesson as what can be done when one applies their writing skills to something they really want. This is a guy that had a goal in mind and reached it without much more than willpower and determination.

9. He attended Harvard University.

He even started his writing career by writing for a local magazine run by the school, so you know he had his eyes set on the goal he’d set for himself the entire time. He wasn’t messing around when it came to deciding what he wanted to do.

8. His fallback if comedy writing didn’t work was law school.

This is someone that has had things together for a while in a big way since not everyone has a solid backup plan that they can execute if they have to. Law school would certainly take more time to reach any sizable accomplishment but it is certainly a good option.

7. He’s appeared on Parks and Recreation.

He’s written, produced, and directed in this show and he’s even acted in it for a good number of episodes. He wasn’t the biggest character in the show obviously but it was enough to notice that he was there with the other actors and doing his part on screen as well as behind it.

6. He started up comedy writing right out of college.

Alan hit the ground running as the saying goes, but obviously as you can tell from one of the comments above he already had a leg up and was well ahead of a lot of people when it came to really getting his name out there in order to be noticed.

5. He wrote the story that became Date and Switch.

The original title of the film was Gay Dude when Alan first wrote it, but it was picked up by Lionsgate after spending some time on the Hollywood blacklist. The film is about two high school guys that vow to have sex before their senior prom. The only problem is that one of them comes out as being gay, so that kind of changes the story a bit.

4. He served as executive producer for Master of None.

So far his resume is pretty well padded with a lot of successful shows that have made him a big name in the industry and have proven that his skill and talent are on point. With the amount of help he has and the connections that his career have allowed him to make there’s no doubt that he’ll continue to do great things.

3. He’s friends with Aziz Ansari.

This probably gives him a lot of advantages as Aziz Ansari has been a big name in the movie and TV industry for a little while now and he can probably help open a lot of doors that might have otherwise been hard to access. Of course being friends a lot of the stuff that passes between them is mutual and helps them both.

2. He’s not a big fan of writing about stereotypical characters.

He’s been asked to substitute characters of certain races in his writing before and he’s refused since he didn’t think they would work. This isn’t always the best way to go about getting studios and directors to agree with you but it’s still important to keep your integrity.

1. He has a very modest following on social media.

He has thousands of followers on social media but it seems a lot more important that he be recognized for what he does when it comes to the shows actually being successful.

There’s no denying his success, and it’s pretty inspiring.
