Adam Driver Discusses His Time in the Marines on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert

Adam Driver might be one of the stars of Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, but he admitted last night on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert that he’s not always super comfortable with the attention he gets for being a part of the biggest film in the United States’ history. While he’s happy to take photos with kids who want pictures with him, it’s the adults that he get a little uncomfortable around. It’s clear from Driver’s interview with Colbert that he is a very shy person, which is a little uncommon for someone who is not only an actor but also a former Marine.

Although it’s not the most well-known fact about him, Adam Driver was a Marine before he became an actor, and he discussed his time in the military with Colbert on The Late Show. In fact, Colbert even brought out an old photo of Driver as a Marine, and when the Late Show host asked him if he was ever given a nickname by any of the members of his unit, he gave a surprising answer.

“There was another guy in my unit that had big ears, so he was Ears 1, and I guess I was Ears 2,” Driver said.

“You have big, beautiful ears,” Colbert told Driver, “but there was a guy who outranked you in ears?”

In addition to talking about the Marines, Driver also touched upon his experiences at Julliard and how the idea of teamwork is important in both the military and in acting. It’s a really smart and unexpected comparison that he makes.
