ABC’s New Series “Somewhere Between” – What Can We Expect?

“Somewhere Between” is the ABC network’s newest muder mystery drama that adds a supernatural twist. The July 24, 2017 premiere promises a summer of suspense and entertainment. The first rumors started flying when its airing was confirmed in December of 2016 and the anticipation began to build. It became even more exciting with the revelations that Paula Patton would star in the leading role. It didn’t hurt to find out that Devon Sawa would be joining the cast opposite of Paula. Ten episodes are set to fill your summer evenings. Here are the first impressions we have of the new premiere.

Korean format

The thriller drama will especially appeal to the crowd that is into this genre as well as those who have a fond place in their hearts for Korean movie flavor. The series has been filmed in Vancouver, BC and is the product of writer Stephen Tolkin, known for Legend Of The Seeker.”

Supernatural undertones throughout

How can anyone possibly know the fate of another person? Laura Price does. You’ll have to watch to find out how she learns about what is going to happen to her daughter. She’s a solid professional and not given to bouts of fantasy or loss of reality. This is what makes the series so riveting. What would you do if you were given unbelievable information about a loved one. Would you act on it or think you were having a psychotic episode?

Believable storyline

Although the supernatural aspect of the plot may throw some viewers off, it’s put forth in a believable manner. Patton’s character, Laura Price, is a high profile news producer and a mother who loves her daughter dearly. The story line centers around her knowledge that her daughter is going to be murdered. She knows when, how and where the deed will occur, but she doesn’t know who the killer is or why they want to murder her daughter. She tries desperately to protect her daughter Serena from the fate that is to befall her. It is as though fate and destiny have shaken hands to bring all of the elements and circumstances together to put the girl into position for the grisly act. There doesn’t seem to be much that Price can do to keep her daughter safe.

Sawa adds to the tone of the show

We all remember Devon Sawa in “Final Destination.” This series has the same kind of feeling. The fact that he is joining the cast will reinforce the sense of fate conspiring to bring about fatal results. This makes the show a true thriller and adds to the unfolding drama. Fans will not want to miss a single episode. In “Somewhere Between,” Sawa plays the role of a cop turned private investigator. His presence in the series stimulates those of us familiar with his former roles to be excited about how his character may evolve through the ten episodes.

Final thoughts

The first impressions that we get from the upcoming premiere are that it is a take from “Final Destination.” Importing Sawa was a brilliant move to reinforce the sense of dread and anticipation about what is going to happen next. The series is not for the faint of heart. The show will deliver a riveting story that keeps everyone on the edges of their seats.
