Kang the Conqueror has been set to be the next big bad of the MCU, and no less of a threat than Thanos was as the character has threatened every reality, not the one sole universe. Since the character first appeared in Marvel Comics as Rama-Tut in a Fantastic Four comic before Kang the Conqueror appeared in an Avengers comic. Overall, Kang has appeared in several different forms and by many different names across various different timelines and ages of the character. Below, we’ve gone over the most important versions of Kang the Conqueror, the variants, as they are the main influence for the character to enter the MCU.
Kang the Conqueror
Kang the Conqueror has appeared as a past self, a future self, variations of the two, and of course different variants, and more. Overall, Kang the Conqueror has appeared in several different forms across several timelines as different levels of a villain in the comics, but so far the MCU has labeled the only known variant as He Who Remains in “Loki”, while a new one will most likely appear in the MCU in 2023 when “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” hits theaters.
Rama-Tut
Rama-Tut was the original name that Kang used when he was the ruler of Ancient Egypt and while he had this form originally, in the comics he also returned to this form and then assisted a version of the Avengers in defeating yet another version of Kang. Kang had almost become another variation of himself from this variant called Immortus but ultimately altered his decision. While there’s no direct way to connect the two right now, the only MCU link to Egypt has been “Moon Knight”, but as “Moon Knight” has mostly kept itself separate from the MCU with little to no reference to its existence its unknown if there’s a true link for the MCU.
Iron Lad
Iron Lad was a variant of Kang the Conqueror that was more of a superhero with a suit like Iron Man, although it operated differently. Overall, the Iron Lad variant of Kang the Conqueror did everything from an attempt to steal his older self’s tech to create a suit to armor to fight with and create his own team of the Avengers, the Young Avengers, to defeat his older self in an attempt to not become him, but in an extremely poor turn of events must become the older variant in order to save reality.
Scarlet Centurion
Scarlet Centurion was a variant of Kang the Conqueror that has been assumed by three different versions of the character throughout history. One version of Kang that assumed the identity only helped it temporarily before he decided to become Kang, the son of Kang had taken up the alias, and most interestingly the only variant of Kang the Conqueror that held onto the Scarlet Centurion identity conquered Earth of another reality.
Victor Timely
Victor Timely may have been among the most boring of the Kang the Conqueror variants, but also among the most interesting as the variant had helped to create a version of The Human Torch. Outside of the creation of a Fantastic Four member, Victor Timely was mostly a ruse in order to gain knowledge and hide away in the simplest way possible. Even Victor Timely could appear in the MCU, but as the character has a “Fantastic Four” link and that movie has been slate for Phase 6, it’s unknown when or if we’ll see that variant.
Mister Gryphon
Mister Gryphon, much like Victor Timely, wasn’t much more than a simple human variant that did more of hiding out and simply living over being an actual conqueror but the character was a modern businessman and CEO of a large corporation, as he was confined to the present. Mister Gryphon could appear in the MCU as there hasn’t been an Iron Man billionaire idea man type of hero, it’s possible that the CEO of Qeng Enterprises could appear in any number of MCU shows or movies before “Avengers: Kang Dynasty”.
Immortus
The Immortus variant of Kang the Conqueror may be the one we see in the MCU as the character has been alluded to be the most powerful as he has been such a devastating force that before Kang could become the variant in the comics, a team called the Time-Keepers separated the characters from each other. Immortus has been labeled as the future version of Kang, but as He Who Remains was inspired by Immortus, what the MCU has planned for all Kang the Conqueror variants could be literally anything.”Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania”
