Premiering on Amazon Prime Video in 2022, Three Pines is as gripping as any mystery TV show there is. The British-Canadian mystery is based on the book Still Life by Louise Penny. At the center of it all is Inspector Gamache (Alfred Molina), who sees a lot more than what meets the eye. With his gift, he tackles a handful of murders that occur in the titular village of Three Pines.
Besides solving murders, Gamache has to deal with prominent ghosts in his past, and long-buried secrets he thought had been laid to rest. Alfred Molina as Inspect Gamache
For the most part, the show is portrayed through the eyes of Chief Inspector Armand Gamache, played by Molina. He’s an English actor who got his big break in the 1981 film Raiders of the Lost Ark. In the movie; he played Satipo, the guide who ended up betraying Indiana Jones. He has since gone on to have a successful career in both film and television. Molina is perhaps best known for his role as Doctor Octopus in the 2002 film Spider-Man. He has also appeared in other big films such as The Da Vinci Code, Love Is Strange, and Furious 7.
In addition to his work in film, Molina has also had a number of memorable roles on television. This includes stints on Monk, Frasier, and The Cosby Show. On a more personal note, Molina was married to actress Jill Gascoine from 1985 until her death in 2020. In 2021, the actor married to Jennifer Lee, who is known for directing Frozen and Frozen II.
Rossif Sutherland as Jean-Guy Beauvoir
Another prominent member of the cast of Three Pines happens to be none other than Rossif Sutherland. Sutherland is a Canadian actor best known for his roles in the films Timeline and Red Doors. The son of famed actor Donald Sutherland, Rossif Sutherland got his start in show business by working as a production assistant on the set of his father’s films.
He made his acting debut in the television movie Timeline and ER. The actor has since gone on to star in such films as The Middle Man, The Retreat, and Orphan: First Kill. In addition to his work in film, Sutherland has also appeared on such television shows as The Listener and The Expanse. A gifted actor with a promising future, Sutherland is definitely one to watch.
Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers as Isabelle Lacoste
An integral member of Gamache’s police team is Isabelle Lacoste, who’s played by Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers. The Canadian actress and filmmaker is of Kainai First Nation descent. Tailfeathers has appeared in projects such as Night Raiders and Blood Quantum, and has directed The Body Remembers When The World Broke Open.
In an interview with Seventh-Row, Tailfeathers talked about what inspired her to direct the film: “The film is inspired by an experience that I had. It’s very similar to the one in the film, but we fictionalized it and the characters. As a filmmaker, before this, I primarily had experience directing documentary. I knew that I wanted to tell this story in real-time.”
Tantoo Cardinal as Bea Mayer
Veteran actress Tantoo Cardinal also happens to be part of the cast of Three Pines. Cardinal is a Canadian actress who has worked in film, television, and theatre since the 1970s. Her performance in the film Loyalties earned her a Genie Award for Best Actress. She also appeared in the films Legends of the Fall, Smoke Signals, and Red Snow.
Clare Coulter as Ruth Zardo
Three Pines resident and poet, Ruth Zardo is played by Clare Coulter. Coulter herself is a Canadian actress who has appeared in a number of film and television roles. She is perhaps best known for her work in the films Hollywood North and Away from Her.
Coulter began her career in the theater, appearing in a number of stage productions in Toronto. She made her screen debut in the independent film By Design. Since then, she has appeared in a number of television series and films, including Foolish Heart, Due South, Coast to Coast, and This Is Wonderland.
Sarah Booth as Yvette Nichol
Every show needs a bit of comic relief and in Three Pines, that comes in the form of Yvette Nichol, an eager rookie cop. Played by Sarah Booth, the police officer often unintentionally makes the wrong moves and fudges things up. While her character is obviously there to lighten things up, there’s still a certain depth to Yvette Nichol.
Booth herself is a Canadian-born actress that’s classically trained. This isn’t her first stint in a crime series, as she has appeared as a guest star on the NBC TV series Law & Order: SVU. She’s been around the block a bit as far as onscreen roles are concerned. She’s featured in shows like The Last Man, Helix, and The Moodys. Also, she was the face of the President’s Choice 2021 campaign in both English and French.
Three Pines Has a Great Ensemble Cast
Other cast members that appear in Three Pines as recurring characters include Julian Bailey, Frédéric-Antoine Guimond, Pierre Simpson, Tamara Brown, Patricia Summersett, Marie-France Lambert, and Anna Lambe , among others.
