Power Book IV Force Season 1 Episode 2: “King of The Goddamn Hill” Recap

Power Book IV Force Season 1 Episode 2: “King of The Goddamn Hill” Recap

There are two things that we know Tommy can do; move weight and make enemies. You would think that after the Flynn family told him to leave Chicago he would have listened to them. After all, the Flynn’s are a powerful cartel and now that his partner in crime is dead he’s officially a lone wolf. And we all know what usually happens to lone wolves. Tommy gets a call from his brother JP. He finds out that JP’s bar was shot up luckily nobody was there. According to JP, this was the third time it had happened which led Tommy to believe that the bar was a front for illegal activity. JP immediately shut that down. It turns out that he’s in deep debt, drowning in his father’s medical bills and struggling to keep the place open. Despite his protests, Tommy gives JP $10,000 in a knot of cash and promises to find a way to come up with more. Leaving his brother’s bar, Tommy runs into an old foe from New York. It’s Lilliana, the courier whose face was sliced during an attack while dealing coke for him and Ghost in the first season of the Power series.  Ghost decide to send her away with a generous sum of cash while Tommy thought it was best to get rid of any loose ends. Tommy previously tried to kill Lilliana in New York but she managed to get away.

Lilliana ambushes Tommy thinking that he came all the way to Chicago to kill her. Tommy and Lilliana’s bout gets interrupted by a patrol car that was passing through the area. They both go their separate ways but it definitely won’t be the last time they see each other. In Power Book IV Force, Episode 2 Tommy is determined to establish himself on the streets of Chicago. To do that he’s going to need some friends. The first thing Tommy does is make amends with Diamond’s crew.  Power Book IV Force, Episode 1 was a great start to the series. The writers were focused on establishing Tommy’s new storyline in this new city. But in Episode 2 we get more of the gut-twisting action that keeps us hooked on the shows in the Power universe. Getting on good terms with the CBI gang wasn’t easy. In fact, Tommy nearly got his head blown off when Jenard ordered one of their young soldiers to take care of him. Tommy gives them their bag of money back. Luckily, Diamond the gang’s leader decides to take mercy on Tommy stating that he came to make peace.  After coming home from prison, Diamond has become more sensible and he’s slowly but surely trying to turn his life around.

Diamond and Tommy step outside his barbershop to chat for a minute. When they take a walk and turn the corner out of Jenard’s sight a car full of masked gunmen hops, throws black hoods on them, and forces them into the car. It turns out that it was Rojas, a rival gang is looking to exact revenge on Diamond. In order to save both of their life, they have to move eight bricks in three hours. Diamond is hesitant. The city is crawling with cops after recent shootings and the last thing he wants to do is get into trouble with the police after just getting out. But he has no choice. While making drops Diamond and Tommy hit it off. Their dynamic is fire just as we projected.  Tommy is brash and bold. Whereas Diamond is milder but just as cunning.  They reminisced how it was moving weight back in the old days. While making the drops, Tommy is scoping out all of the areas of the city. Diamond gets a call from his rivals and finds out that they have kidnapped Jenard and moved up the deadline to get their money. Tommy works well under pressure and he resorts back to his old cut-throat techniques to speed up each of the drug deals.

Diamond’s enemies get their money and he breaks Tommy off a thick wad of cash for his troubles. But it wasn’t really about the money. Tommy needed to show Diamond and CBI that he was genuine and let them know what he was really capable of. Tommy goes a step further by killing Diamond’s two enemies that had them making drops all day. In true, viscous Tommy style he sets them ablaze in the trunk of their car angry and he drops off Rojas’s shirt at Diamond’s barbershop to let it be known that he took care of them.  They looked at Tommy with complete shock. Now they owe him a favor. Tommy came through for his brother just as he had promised, he dropped off another bankroll. JP is appalled at the $25,000 and has no choice but to take it since Tommy won’t take no for an answer. Tommy’s generosity isn’t surprising. We know that Tommy always puts family first. His last stop for the night is Lilliana’s house. Tommy is quite resourceful but the old courier isn’t the scared girl that she used to be. Yet again they end up in a neck-to-neck battle but this time there isn’t a cop around to keep things civil.
