While it does feel as though some folks might not want to take the time to reopen the Monsterverse for a character that’s already been killed off, there are plenty who would be interested in seeing a movie or even a series of King Ghidorah since to be fair, there’s no telling what is really left of this creature since at the end of King of the Monsters one of his heads had been retrieved. Plus, his influence was driving MechaGodzilla in Godzilla vs. Kong, and while the giant robot was destroyed, there’s no telling what was done with the skull that it was connected to. But it does feel that if there is to still be a future for Ghidorah in the Monsterverse it’s bound to be as a mechanized version of himself since the three-headed Titan was hit pretty hard by the big lizard in King of Monsters, especially since Godzilla put his foot right through Ghidorah’s chest.
An origin story would be nice if someone was willing to dig into Ghidorah’s past, perhaps as a way to lead into a current story that would involve someone trying to bring Ghidorah’s influence back. People might wonder who would be foolish enough to do this, but those asking such a thing might need to remember that MechaGodzilla was created to protect humanity from the Titans, so it’s not hard to think that someone might want to continue that work while using something that might bring back the biggest, baddest Titan of them all in a very impressive way. It does feel as though there would be a lot of argument over this idea, but seeing as how the Monsterverse has been thinned out in such a big way it does kind of beg for something to come along that might be capable of kickstarting it once again.
It’s a way to stay away from Godzilla and Kong for a while in order to give both Titans a break, since building on other Titans, if there are any left that the studio wants to use, would be kind of fun and likely open up a few other possibilities. People shouldn’t have too much trouble seeing that they’ve been content to be entertained by a lot of the same stories over the years as they’ve been delivered in a lot of different ways, but have usually ended up ending in the same manner. The Monsterverse has become extremely predictable, and it would be nice to see someone shake it up just a bit, to make it absolutely necessary for Godzilla and Kong to come back, to make it necessary for other Titans to come around and be noticed.
If that would happen it might be something that people could get behind and push for all it was worth. But at the moment it’s hard to think that the Monsterverse is really going to keep pushing as it was for Godzilla vs. Kong. It’s been so long since anyone came up with an entirely original idea for a Titan that it’s starting to feel as though this particular story has nearly reached its end, or has at least hit a point where thinking about anything else exciting might be a little too difficult. Ghidorah’s healing properties and alien physiology should be played upon in a way so as to make it clear that even if he’s inactive, dead in other words, there are still various properties to what’s left of his body that can be accessed and used in a manner that could excite people again and make them think that not everything has been destroyed.
Bringing Ghidorah back would be tricky, but exploring an origin story while doing so could give time and opportunity to those that would be ambitious enough to try. It’s a story that hasn’t reached its terminus yet it feels, at least not with everything we’ve seen the giant, three-headed creature do to this point. There’s no doubt that another throwdown with Godzilla would be on the horizon, but perhaps Kong could help out this time, adding in his own expertise in fighting monsters to the battle. That might actually be an epic fight to see as Godzilla and Kong teamed up once again to take on a mechanical recreation of Ghidorah, who would have to be a little tougher and still retain part of his memories for each head somehow if that were possible. But such an idea would be groaned at by some and absolutely loved by others since it would bring the most vicious Titan back into the fold and make it clear that the fight wasn’t done yet. Ghidorah would still have to lose at some point or perhaps be driven off, but it does feel as though bringing him back for another run would be a good idea.
