When Fandom Takes Over: The Witcher’s Bathtub Scene
It’s always fascinating to see what fans latch onto and how they interpret certain moments in their favorite shows. The bathtub scene in The Witcher is one such moment that has garnered a lot of attention, and thankfully, it made its way into the Netflix series. While it might not be the most crucial scene in the show, it does give viewers a glimpse of Henry Cavill sans shirt. The Witcher hasn’t shied away from nudity, but the bathtub scene is perhaps one of the least impressive in that regard. However, since it’s a moment from the game, fans are thrilled to see it, as it confirms that the showrunners are listening and paying attention to what people want to see. The only issue here is that, according to showrunner Lauren Hissrich, they’re NOT really going by the video game, as per David James of We Got This Covered:
“Obviously, we are not adapting the video games. The video games are an adaption of the books too, so they are pulling from the same source material we are. But I also know, being an American myself, that a lot of [people], especially American audiences, are mostly familiar with the games. They did not even know the books existed. So they are part of our fanbase and it’s just a little wink and a nod to them to tell them that we see them, too.”
Books vs. Games: The Witcher’s True Inspiration
Having just started to read the books, it’s clear that the show isn’t adapting the games, as the connection to the books makes much more sense. However, since the games also pull from the books, it’s fair to say that there will be many similarities that will keep fans happy and allow them to anticipate what’s coming. So far, The Witcher has been well-received and thoroughly enjoyed by many, thanks to its captivating story and Henry Cavill’s portrayal of Geralt of Rivia. His brooding, sullen, and sulky demeanor might come off as a bit over-the-top at times, but it adds depth to his character and hints at the heart hidden beneath his icy exterior.
It’s interesting that the bathtub scene has become such a talking point when there are so many other aspects of the show to discuss, such as the action scenes, Yennefer’s rise to power, and Ciri’s journey from being on the run to being under the Witchers’ protection. But as they say, all in due time. Nick Westerby of ThefirstNews has more to say on the matter.
The Witcher: A Tale of Action, Relationships, and Trials
The Witcher has been a fantastic action-packed story that doesn’t shy away from showing its hero’s vulnerability. Geralt has faced numerous challenges and near-death experiences, proving that Witchers are incredibly resilient but still susceptible to harm. This aspect of his character is likely one of the reasons fans are so drawn to him. He’s strong, quick, agile, and skilled in combat, but the creatures he faces are so formidable that it takes someone with his experience and knowledge to defeat them. Even then, he occasionally finds himself outmatched and relying on luck.
Geralt’s relationships with other characters, such as the bard and Mousesack, are intriguing, as they seem to know him better than most. We have yet to see him connect with Yennefer or Ciri, but those days are coming. The build-up to the events in the books is sure to take us by surprise and leave us wondering how we didn’t see it coming. In the meantime, it’s enough to simply enjoy the show and watch as Geralt navigates one trial after another.
Looking Ahead: The Witcher’s Future Seasons
Currently, season 2 of The Witcher has been confirmed, and there are even rumors of a third season in the works. This news should keep fans satisfied for the time being, but it also means that Cavill won’t be donning the Superman cape anytime soon. However, it seems that many people are content with this trade-off, as they eagerly await more adventures with Geralt of Rivia.
