Steve DiSchiavi is the host of the television series “The Dead Files.” He joins co-host Amy Allan in their investigation of locations that are reported to have paranormal activities taking place. While his colleague is the physical medium who conducts the physical and psychic investigations, Steve does the legwork to establish the documented history of each location. The two do not talk until after each has completed their own investigations and they share the facts that they have uncovered with their clients. He has become quite popular as a reality celebrity personality since the launch of the series. To help you become better acquainted with him, here are 10 things that you probably didn’t know about Steve DiSchiavi.

1. He is a retired detective

Prior to becoming a part of a paranormal research team, Steve DiSchiavi served on the New York City Police Department as a detective where he spent 21 years as an officer. He has since retired from this line of work and he now uses the skills that he gained as a detective to aid in the investigations which are aired on the series.

2. His job is to research the properties

It is DiSchiavi’s belief that there is a story behind every property whether it is a business or a private residence. He looks through the local records and does research in local newspaper archives to discover the stories that are behind the places that they are investigating. He learns about who has owned the places previously if there have been any deaths, accidents, murders and so forth. Some of the stories are quite interesting.

3. He previously worked at Merrill Lynch

We also discovered that after his retirement from the New York Police Department, Steve went to work for the fraud department at Merrill Lynch as a senior investigator. He also spent time working for the city of New York as a special investigator. After taking these two jobs for a period of time he established a private investigating company in the state that he lives in (Florida). He is also a licensed armed guard.

4. His Birthday

For those of you who are wondering his age, Steve was born on the first of May in 1966. As of 2019, he was 53 years old. He was born in Brooklyn, New York land this is where he spent his childhood and the better part of his career. He currently resides in the state of Florida where he runs his own private investigation business.

5. He has appeared in film productions

Steve DiShiavi is also an actor. He’s currently into reality television with “The Dead Files,” which was launched in 2011, but he has also appeared in movies. He was cast in “Pride and Glory” in 2008, which was a movie in the crime and thriller genres. In addition to this, he starred in a comedy short film called “Take Out: My Dad’s Rolex” in 2011.

6. He didn’t matriculate in his high school

We also learned that Steve DiSchiavi attended school in the Bensonhurst neighborhood of Brooklyn where he grew up. He attended Lafayette High School until the 10th grade. We’re not certain of the reasons why, but he was never matriculated in the school. For some reason, he had to leave, but this fact has not yet been explained.

7. He was a marine

Before Steve became a police officer, he did a stint in the United States military. He served as a marine. He was enlisted in the corps for three years. He received an honorable discharge at the end of his enlistment. It was right after he left the corps that he started his career in law enforcement. He has had a long and successful career and when he wasn’t employed with the city of New York, he was either working for another company or pursuing his own business endeavors. He has maintained a strong work ethic throughout his life and he has an impressive resume. It looks like Steve DiSchiavi has done a little bit of everything including acting, police work, private investigation, and paranormal investigation.

8. He was contacted by a producer from Hollywood to appear in “The Dead Files”

DiSchiavi had been involved with an NYPD documentary titled “NYPD 24/7.” After the special aired he was contacted by a Hollywood producer who asked him if he would be interested in appearing on television. This was how he came to be associated with “The Dead Files.” It all started with a phone call from a stranger who liked what he saw in a documentary.

9. Steve initially had no interest in doing a paranormal television show

Steve’s first reaction when he heard that the television show was about the paranormal was to give the producer an immediate “no.” This wasn’t something that he had an interest in. The producer had to do a lot of talking to get him to fly to Denver to meet with Amy Allan. He finally agreed to give it a shot and so he flew in to meet her film a pilot for the series. DiSchiavi admitted that after meeting her and talking with her, he felt differently about it. He even defends her credibility to skeptics.

10. Steve gets a lot of positive comments on social media

DiSchiavi wasn’t sure why anyone would choose him of all people to co-star in a paranormal reality show, but he is now right at home in the role. He takes his responsibilities very seriously. The show can be frightening at times and although he is not the one who conducts the paranormal investigation, he does investigate the history, which is something that he is an expert at doing. When he and Amy compare their data, the end results are usually that they are pretty close together in their findings, even though they never talk until both have concluded their assignments.
