Celebrating Black Friday: Five Memorable Shopping Scenes in Movies

The most crazy of shopping days is almost upon us and people are already gearing up as the emails have started and the camping gear is being packed so that people can line up and set stakes on their place in line so that they don’t miss those first few frenzied seconds of whatever deals are being given in the countless stores that are going to open their doors and hope to break even and sit firmly in the black by the end of the day. For some of us though it’s a good time to sit back, enjoy the leftovers of the day before, and laugh at those that aren’t taking advantage of the online deals that are so easily accessed during Black Friday. There’s something so comforting about adding an Amazon to Netflix n’ Chill on Black Friday as you enjoy it all from the comfort of your own couch, or bed, whichever is comfier. And while you’re doing that, in honor of the madness that you can so easily avoid, here are a few great shopping scenes that might get you in the mood for a good laugh.

There’s a lot of them out there, but here are five of the best.

5. Pretty Woman

They’re not all holiday-based, but this one was just too good to pass up since it was a scene out of the classic movie Pretty Woman when the high-brow shop employees decide to look down on Vivian based on her clothing and appearance. The downside of this of course, for them, is that when working on commission it’s usually best not to be such a snob no matter where you work, and Vivian reminded them of this at the end of the encounter in a very amusing way. Plus, like it or not, if a person comes into your store it’s time to be grateful unless they’re being so disruptive that it wouldn’t matter who they are or what kind of money they have.

4. How the Grinch Stole Christmas

Let’s face it, even after Black Friday this is what the stores are going to start looking like since people are going to be flooding into the shops in order to get what their families want and what they want and eventually it will all come around on the 26th once again for a brief period. The holiday season is nuts not just thanks to commercialism but also due to the fact that a lot of us have forgotten how to do more with less and are simply trying to appease our families. This was a big message that the story had to tell and it took a child to get everyone to pay attention. Don’t read too much into that though, she wasn’t talking about climate change.

3. Jingle All the Way

Almost every Christmas or every other impending holiday season there’s that ONE toy that kids just have to have or the entire world will end. And there’s always more than enough parents that are willing to drive themselves and everyone around them crazy in order to get it. It doesn’t even matter if the price goes up or the stock is limited, some parents will do absolutely anything to get that toy for their kid since without it Christmas somehow doesn’t seem quite as special. Thank goodness for parents that teach their kids that the season isn’t all about gifts, but about being together and enjoying what you get because the thought means more.

2. Big

Again, not a holiday scene, but something that couldn’t be left out since this piano scene has been inspirational for a lot of years now. Big was one of the movies that kids loved since it’s a dream to be an adult when you’re younger, but when you actually grow up you get to figure out that it’s like having a constant, 24/7 job that doesn’t end. Of course there are always moments when it seems okay to just let go and be the child that we all have inside somewhere. For something like however taking piano lessons and being able to remember just how far the keys are from each other is usually a bonus. Jesse Schedeen of Moviefone has a few facts you might not have known about this movie.

1. Elf

You didn’t think this list was going to leave this one out did you? Elf has of course become a common holiday staple and as soon as the Christmas movies come out it’s on a continual loop with some stations. Buddy is perhaps one of the most anticipated characters of the season and to be honest while I’m not a huge Elf fan, I know how dare I, it is a movie that does manage to make a lot of people laugh. There’s just something about this movie that’s kind of cute but also a little over the top at times.

Stay safe out there people, good deals are only a few clicks away.
