For those who have missed the hilarious humor that Eddie Murphy once brought to the stage, you are about to be in luck. Adults who lived through the 80s and still remember it will appreciate the way that Eddie Murphy just seemed to make you laugh. He was so good that he is still one of the few comedians in the history of the business who could fill up entire arenas. Everyone would be almost crying from the jokes that would just flow out of his mouth. It is called standup comedy. While we understand on the surface that Eddie Murphy knew what he was going to say, it seems that the humor just flew out of his mouth on the fly, unrehearsed and raw.
Those were certainly the good old days, and it appears as though they might be coming back only a year from now. If you have been wondering where Eddie Murphy has been, it is not as if he has been sleeping for a few decades. He simply went onto focus on an acting career that has seen him star in countless movies and television shows. Recently, he has been appearing on Netflix shows and is about to star in a series of standup comedy sketches that the online streaming service hopes will become immensely popular. It is out of this that Eddie Murphy has recently implied that he is planning to make a standup comedy comeback at some point in 2020.
The Background
The entertainment world just recently learned that Eddie Murphy is making a comeback to Saturday Night Live. In many ways, it is was his appearances on this late night show that really helped him to hit the big time. He has not been on the show for quite some time, and long-time viewers have certainly missed him. It will be nice to see him back on there as the host. Who knows how many shows he will actually do, but the viewership is sure to increase dramatically as soon as starts appearing on there once again.
It was out of this recent announcement that Murphy revealed that he has long been thinking about making a comeback to the stand-up comedy circuit that he popularized in the 1980s. This will be quite the announcement once it becomes official. To be honest, we do not know the details yet. Possibly, Murphy does not even know the details himself. Who knows. What we do know is that he recently talked about the possibility on this own podcast, so it must be something that he feels fairly confident about. It was on that podcast that he stated he would personally be going on a solo standup tour as early as 2020. Since that is rapidly approaching, we can only assume that much more information will be coming soon.
The Netflix Connection
It seems that nearly everyone in the celebrity world is jumping on the Netflix bandwagon. Eddie Murphy is the latest big name to be rumored to be negotiating a significant deal with the online streaming service. This will be for a series of stand up specials that will appear on Netflix at some point in the near future. If you don’t remember, then we take you back to 1983. This is when you created his Delirious tour that featured himself with a series of stand up comedy sketches. This was followed up in 1987 with Raw. Both we popular beyond any Wildes imagination. Before long he would be performing in front of sold-out crowds that filled up entire arenas. This is certainly the accomplishment, so we are sure that Murphy is hoping he can once again do the same several decades later.
Netflix is about to debut a new movie titled Dolemite Is My Name. This stars Eddie Murphy and it seems to be the perfect introduction to him making such a comeback. He has also recently finished filming Coming to America 2. This a sequel to a movie that many people have loved, particularly the character that he played. Both of these movies combined will be the perfect publicity that, when combined with his upcoming hosting of Saturday Night Live, should Segway nicely into a national tour. Can he once again fill up arenas to hear his brand of coarse humor? Only time will tell.

There was a recent Netflix podcast of Present Company with Krista Smith that detailed the plans Eddie Murphy have for hosting Saturday Night Live. This is something that he is really looking forward to. It was in the middle of that podcast that he mentioned he would begin taking his stand up comedy routine back on the road at some point in 2020. Strangely enough, that is where he left it and the host, Krista, did not follow up on it, or perhaps she was told not to.
The Saturday Night Live hosting will begin in December. This is one of the most popular seasons for the show, so long-time fans of Eddie Murphy will undoubtedly be cheering him one. From there, who knows what the New Year will bring on. Perhaps Murphy already knows exactly when his tour will start and what cities will benefit from his presence. For the rest of us, however, we will just have to wait and see.
