If you’re one of the many avid HGTV fans who binge-watch everything from “House Hunters” with homes all over the world to “Property Brothers” with the fabulous Scott twins, “Christina on the Coast” with the always-gorgeous Christina (formerly El Moussa) Anstead, and “My Lottery Dream Home” with the endearing and always-colorful David Bromstad; you’re sure to love HGTV’s new pool shows as well. After all, one of them even has the super-hunk Mario Lopez as the host. Just as when he was on “The Bold & the Beautiful” and several other shows, audiences will surely be waiting for him to take his shirt off.
According to HGTV’s “Supersize My Pool,” Mario is on the hunt for some families in need of a pool upgrade so that his team can start converting them from uncool to cool. From “Fun in the Sun” where he helps a pair of Las Vegas Air Force veterans turn their nightmare pool into a super-kid zone complete with an outdoor barbecue and a Baja shelf to “A Place to Party” where Mario helps another Las Vegas family turn their pool from useless and overheated by the desert sun to shaded, complete with a massive spa, volleyball, and several water features, they’re all truly amazing. As Mario tells a young boy whose family pool is being saved from extinction, he’s “Super Mario!” And, Mario proves that with each pool makeover that he and his crew do.
The boy’s family in Rialto, CA, got an extra special pool and backyard complete with an amazing outdoor kitchen with a twist. You see, the entire family is made up of true blue Dodgers fans! So, Mario decided to incorporate their fave team in their pool makeover job. Then he consulted with everybody’s favorite Dodger, Justin Turner, on what he should do. Justin suggested that Mario go all-Dodger all-the-way with glasses, plates, etc. for the outdoor kitchen bar and Justin came up with an even better idea for this Dodger family. He had the entire team sign a Dodger home plate so that Mario could give them that as well.
Naturally, the pool and backyard turned out gorgeous and the outdoor kitchen was to-do-for. The family absolutely loved all of the Dodger memorabilia. But, Mario wasn’t done yet! Their first guest at their first BBQ was a bonafide former Dodger player who signed autographs on more Dodger merch for all of their family and friends! Mario really went the extra mile for this family, again, proving there’s more to him than just Magic-Mike muscles, fab abs, and disarming dimples. He really is Super-Mario and a downright nice guy to boot!
Now, not all of the shows have a big star as a host but what they do have are some unforgettable pools! And, one of them with some of the most unforgettable is definitely “Pool Kings”. Now, this one is my second favorite HGTV pool show because these guys do some truly amazing things with pools! According to HGTV, Pool Kings Kelly Caviness and his two sons, Cameron and Christian, are creating some really over-the-top pools that are also award-winning for clients. From inviting swim-up bars to luxury grottos, backyard water parks, and towering 15-foot waterfalls, “Pool Kings” offers some tricked-out pools and backyards that are like something out of a dream. One episode entitled “Poolside and Mystified” follows the boys on the job as they build insane water features and waterslides that look like they belong in luxury resorts, and another episode called “Swim-Up Bars Near and Far”, they turn a family’s backyard from funky to fabulous in one fell swoop!
“Ultimate Pools” is a pool show where, according to HGTV, pool designers are making the backyard dreams of homeowners come true for them. They use some imagination and plenty of water for creating outdoor oases that are extravagant, dream-worthy and, well, the ultimate in pools! Their ultimate pools go from party-worthy to downright outrageous!
Now, “Pool Hunters” is a bit different from the other pool shows on HGTV and other channels like “Animal Planet”. It’s the newer of HGTV’s pool shows, premiering at 9:30|8:30c on July 6, 2019, Why is it different? Well, rather than turning ugly-duckling pools into amazing backyard oases or turning ordinary pools and their surrounding grounds into something you usually would only see at a pricey resort; “Pool Hunters” is more like “House Hunters”. It helps prospective homebuyers find a home with the pool of their dreams already in the backyard. So, on this show, it’s no longer about that chef’s kitchen, hardwood floors, vaulted ceilings, or massive master suite. No, it’s instead all about the backyard and what it has to offer.
According to HGTV, Cool Pools offers viewers some over-the-top swimming pool designs and everything from rooftop pools to celebrity pools. This show covers some major celeb homes and their backyard pools, including the pool at Hearst Castle, a guitar-shaped pool that really rocks, a pool that’s complete with a built-in aquarium, and even a luxury backyard pool worth a cool million! These pools are definitely the coolest!
So, from amazing water features like caves, flaming log slides, long lazy rivers, and tree houses, the HGTV pool shows have upped the wow factor in many a backyard swimming pool. These shows are great fun to watch and an even better learning experience for homeowners to see exactly how pool designers are going about fulfilling homeowners’ dreams with their best work in providing spectacular pools. After all, when a pool can rival both luxury resorts and family water parks or resort, those backyards are the very best place to be on hot days, not to mention hot nights. With fantastic fountains and waterfalls and entire yards filled with specialty lighting, the after-dark light shows just might be even cooler than the pools!
Last but not least, what HGTV does with all of its shows, and now especially with its new wildly popular pool shows, is center everything around family. With HGTV, it’s always family-first and it shows in their line-up of shows from Chip and JoJo and their ever-expanding brood of cool kids to Christina and her new and amazing husband (and new pool), viewers get their fill of that warm and fuzzy family feeling.
