NCIS Spinoffs We’d Like to See Without NCIS in the Title

In the history of TV there have been a lot of shows that have grabbed the attention of the people and held on for dear life. But NCIS is one of those that, according to Jason Rossi from the Cheat Sheet, is something that people love or hate but can still admit is insanely popular. Andrew Warren from TV Tabloid has gone into the whole idea of spinoffs when it comes to NCIS, but one thing that’s pretty obvious is that NCIS: LA and NCIS: New Orleans kind of got lucky that the parent show became such a hit and that they managed to gain such noted stars for their brands. It’s even been noted by Sonja Flemming of BC that the crossovers the show has experienced have created a bump in popularity that might have very well gotten the ball rolling when it comes to any and all spinoff ideas that might be coming down the pipe.

Here’s just a few spinoff ideas that might hold water, or not. Looking at how things are in show business however it could be feasible.

5. Capital Crimes

This is kind of a play on words since a lot of the parent show does take place in DC and it does seem as though it might be able to go the way of Law & Order and create a few shows that might actually take place on a much more local level. When you look at the main show there do seem to be a lot of people in the office that never get noticed and could possibly be given something else to do on a show that might go over other crimes and matters that we don’t always see on the show. There’s a lot more going on in the building that we’re never made privy to thanks to the fact that Gibbs and his team are the stars.

4. NIS

This would give an interesting look into how NCIS actually started since if you recall when Mike Franks came we were given a chance to see the agency when it was still NIS and had yet to really change. It would be kind of fun to see how Franks got to be the way he was and even to see a younger Gibbs make his way up since Mark Harmon is too old to take up that role any longer. Finding out how the whole agency really came to be would kind of impossible since it would likely fail immediately, but seeing just how some of the more famous agents came to be would be kind of interesting since it would give a basis for the main show.

3. Mossad

This one seems like it would be a lot more edgy and would have to rely on a healthy amount of crossover between the shows since on its own it might not attract enough viewers to really do anything. But if you’ve seen how much NCIS and Mossad have interacted over the years, especially with attention given to the fact that they lost one of their agents to NCIS and another was killed by Tony in an episode, there’s a lot of animosity as well as grudging respect between the two agencies that keeps them colliding with one another on a pretty regular basis, so it’s fair to say that it might work.

2. Deep Six

Bear with me on this one, but when Tim wrote his novel and it did so well it does seem like it would be a great idea for a spinoff, something fictional within an already fictional story that could draw readers in and be part comedy, part drama that might be good for a limited run. If nothing else it would show people what was actually going on in Tim’s head at the time when he was writing the story and give a better example of just why his fellow agents weren’t all that impressed. Plus, on its own the show could be another over the top drama that would garner at least a healthy number of viewers.

1. Gibbs

Do I really have to say anything? We do tend to see what Gibbs is doing a lot of the time but maybe this could be a show in which we get to see the few things that he does that don’t involve the team. It could still be packed with action and it could even go over his time as a Marine sniper. It could even tell us just how he gets those boats he builds out of his basement. Even Stack Exchange, among many other sites, have not been able to figure just how he gets the boats of the basement, apart from the one time that he claimed to have burned one. So this could lay bare some of the mysteries that make Gibbs who he is.

They could work, in theory.
