The Best Uses of Pantera Songs in Movies or TV

For a band that was considered to be great when they were in their prime there was a lot of controversy that went into Pantera’s legacy, especially considering the fact that they split in 2003 and one of their former members was gunned down while on stage. If you ever listened to the band then you knew just how hard they could rock and how enamored so many people were when it came to their sound and their reputation. They were one of the many bands that were all about metal and would deliver a truly memorable concert as well as a musical experience that none could possibly forget. The idea that they went downhill and eventually had to quit was something that a lot of people might not have seen coming. But while they were a great band at one point they did have their fair share of problems that tore them apart from within.

Here are a few of their songs as heard in movies and on TV.

5. Dracula 2000 – Avoid the Light

The story of Dracula has been told in so many different ways and with so many different voices that one might think that it’s been played out for years now. But Dracula 2000 was an attempt to bring the legend into the mainstream in a way that had been done before but was still different enough that it could be called innovative and perhaps even worthwhile. In truth this movie had a lot of sex appeal, from the singer Vitamin C to Jennifer Esposito and even Jeri Ryan. But where it kind of fell short was when it went into the whole idea of the original Dracula being none other than Judas Iscariot, the betrayer of Christ. It would make sense in a way, but they still could have fleshed the details out a bit more.

4. Beavis and Butthead – This Love

If there’s any animated show that would manage to make fun of a favored band and love them at the same time it would be this one. After all, Beavis and Butthead were all about hard rock and often made fun of other music genres mercilessly simply because they could. But in this episode they at least had a band that they liked to ridicule a bit since the obvious nature of this show was to make everything seem as comical as possible in the meanest way. In all honesty it’s almost enough to say that some people miss this show since despite being decidedly non-PC it was still honest in its stupidity.

3. Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight – Cemetery Gates

Some might have said that this movie bombed out completely since it didn’t really turn heads despite the fact that it had a few notable stars in it. The whole premise was that a stranger came to a small town one night and was followed by a collector of sorts, a man that wanted a relic the stranger was carrying. Unfortunately for the people stuck in the building with the stranger the collector was a demon lord bent on doing the work of his master, which meant he was up to nothing good. One by one the people in the building fell prey to the demons trying to get into the structure, until finally only the stranger and a single survivor were left. Upon ending the film shows the survivor making her way onward via bus, while another collector is hot on her trail.

2. Donnie Darko – Proud to be Loud

This is simply an odd movie and one that has gained a serious cult following over the years thanks to its many oddities and the use of time travel and darker, thematic elements that were seen to be somehow compelling. Donnie is a young man that has some serious issues but is somehow left to his own devices throughout much of the movie. With the idea that the world is going to end at a given point in time he does what he can to make sense of the premonition he’s been given, but by the time the film ends he wakes up and is immediately crushed by a falling jet engine that had dislodged from a plane, thereby negating any chance that he would touch anyone’s life as he did in the movie.

1. The Crow – The Badge

The Crow is a revenge story draped protectively around a love story that became a cult classic that some sought to emulate and continue. The only problem with any sequels was that this was, simply put, not the kind of story that you go around copying and making into a cheesy series. This movie deserved the reverence it was given and to be quite honest it’s been given a lot of respect over the years that it’s earned.

Pantera was great for their time, and while they lasted.
