Kai Wener is a young actor who heavily recurs as Ty Finn on Fox’s hit series The Orville. Season 2 is set to premiere December 30th. He has also guest-starred on Days of Our Lives and Game Shakers. Other onscreen credits include commercials for Walt Disney World, McDonald’s Honda, Burger King, and Amazon to name a few. He has also modeled in print campaigns for Disney and Got Milk? Here are 10 things you didn’t know about Kai Wener from Kai himself.
- My first name Kai has many different powerful meanings, “Ocean” in Hawaiian, “King” in Persian and “Victory” in Chinese.
- I’m 10 years old and I’m surviving middle school already!!!
- I’m actually a little math nerd. I was selected based on my top math scores to compete on my middle school’s Math-letes team, against other schools.
- I absolutely LOVE Brussel sprouts! YUM! They get a bad rap, but my Mom has a great “Kai-approved” receipe that I have learned to master all by myself!
- To prepare for my audition for the role of Ty Finn on The Orville, created by Seth MacFarlane, my script had Ty calling out “Mom” over and over again to wake her up. I immediately thought about the famous Family Guy scene where Stewie wakes up Lois by continuously saying “Mom!, Mum!, Mommy!…” Since my Dad told me that Family Guy was also a Seth MacFarlane show, I thought it would be fun to incorporate that scene into my audition.
- I began learning classical piano for my role on The Orville for Season 2. The producers wanted my scenes to be as real as possible, so instead of using a professional pianist as a photo double, I had to put my little fingers to work! Although it was very challenging in a short amount of time, I fell in love with it so much, that I am still taking lessons!
- My family and I are Disney Fanatics! So, the fact that I have a huge National Walt Disney World commercial currently airing is bananas! What’s even cooler is that I was able to film in Florida with an Original BB-8, the same one used in the Star Wars movies. That was really neat because I learned that there are only two Original BB-8’s in the world and one of them was brought out to film my commercial, which is quite rare!
- One of the most adventurous things I’ve EVER done was snorkeling in the middle of the ocean, off the North Shore of Oahu, where the water is over 150 feet deep! The sea turtles were as big as my body!
- I could sit for hours and watch wild life documentaries on National Geographic and Animal Planet. Reptiles are the most interesting to learn about and I even have my very own pet Russian Tortoise that I named “Shell-Raiser”.
- I love watching old school movies as well, so when I filmed for the Nickelodeon TV Show Game Shakers, I was really excited to work with Kel Mitchell. By the time I had finished filming, he had helped me master his famous line from his movie Good Burger. It went a little something like this, “Welcome to Good Burger, home of the Good Burger, can I take your order?”
