The Best Uses of Ellie Goulding Songs in Movies or TV

People might find it interesting, off-putting, or perhaps just kind of odd to think that any celebrity might suffer panic attacks when they’re out in public or about to perform, which is close to being the same thing at times. But Ellie Goulding had to lay down in the back of the car as she made her way to performances or other recording opportunities at one time because otherwise she suffered massive panic attacks. You might think that this is kind of strange considering that on stage she seems so confident and sure of herself, but she was quite uncertain of her worth for a while and simply did her best to mask that insecurity. Over the years she has found ways to combat the anxiety she feels and has reached a level that allows her to quell such feelings when she needs to, but no matter how popular one gets the self-esteem that they hold for themselves is always bound to be less or greater than people realize.

Here are some of her songs as they’ve appeared in movies and TV.

5. Teen Wolf – Starry Eyed

Anyone from the 80s and 90s remember the old Teen Wolf movies? They weren’t particularly dark and they only featured a couple of werewolves. But this show features multiple types and gets extremely dark, which makes a person wonder if the only thing that the movies and the show have in common is their name. There’s certainly little to no comedy going on within the show that could equate to the old films and it’s nowhere near as innocent as the lovable lycanthropes were back in the day. But it did manage to strike a chord with a lot of viewers that have come to love the show, so that’s something.

4. Spring Breakers – Lights

And here a lot of people think that Spring Break is for going down to some sunny resort, drinking, partying, and just getting into the kind of trouble that might get a person pregnant, locked up for a night, or possibly beaten up for saying something stupid. Of course there are those that just have to raise the bar and up the game a bit. That’s pretty much what happens when a group of young women go a bit nuts and join up with a shady drug dealer that has his sights set on taking out the competition and using them in order to do it. By the end of the film you’re kind of wondering what you just watched, but feeling somehow glad that you did.

3. Kick-Ass – Starry Eyed

In terms of superhero movies this one was kind of a dud since a lot of people seemed to think that the titular hero was going to be someone uniquely awesome and ready to take on the world. In truth he’s a kid that doesn’t know which end of the baton to hit with and can’t even throw a proper punch when he gets started. Hit Girl and Big Daddy are far more skilled and yet a great deal more psychotic than Kick-Ass could ever be since they’ve made a lifestyle out of this. But when taking on a local crime boss all three of them seemed a little under-powered despite their arsenal and skills. Reality is a little different than the comic books after all.

2. Divergent – Hanging On

Being different from others is usually something to celebrate since it means that you’re not bound by the same limitations or are at least gifted in a way that others are not. But when you’re ruled by a system that doesn’t care for deviations from the norm it makes you target and something dangerous that the system will want to eliminate or assimilate into its own collective. The only real options are to join and possibly be destroyed, or to fight and risk everything. The idea of fighting the system is terrifying for some as it means taking on an established order that has the kind of resources that can crush most opposing forces. But the alternative is to join or die, and that’s hardly acceptable.

1. Fifty Shades of Grey – Love Me Like You Do

It’s kind of amusing that the soundtrack and the books that helped to create the movie and its overall feel were more respected than the movie itself. Something about the manner in which it was created didn’t sit well with a lot of fans, but while some people claim it’s the overall story, others would admit that it’s the graphic nature of the tale itself. One has to remember that in order to actually pass muster and be allowed on the big screen it couldn’t have been nearly as graphic as the book details. If that had been allowed this would have probably been considered high-end pornography at best.

For all her insecurities Ellie Goulding has a marvelous voice.
