The Best Uses of TobyMac Songs in Movies or TV

Christian hip hop is certainly something you don’t hear about every day but TobyMac has made it a rather big part of his life since he’s gone on to become one of the most popular artists of his time with hits you might have heard once or twice and can possibly recognize off this list. He was a part of a group until around 2000 when he took his act solo and began to make hits all on his own. For those that like Christian hip hop it does sound kind of like anything else you’d hear on the charts but obviously it has different themes than a lot of the other hip hop recordings you might hear and is bound to be a lot cleaner in many ways. Some folks might call this faux hip hop but in all reality hip hop is more than just the need to speak about certain subjects, it’s a culture all to itself that doesn’t always discriminate when it comes to subject matter.

Here are a few of his songs as they’ve been used in movies and TV.

5. TobyMac – Feelin’ So Fly

The Game Plan was made back when Dwayne Johnson was still sometimes being billed as The Rock and was still kind of coming into his whole Hollywood phase. He plays a star quarterback whose team is about to go for a championship when all of a sudden it’s revealed that he has a daughter and that he has to take care of her. That would be a lot to dump on anyone since having a kid and expecting them to be in your life is a huge adjustment. But going from having no kids and a carefree life to having a daughter that you have to look after, take care of, and be there for is something else entirely.

4. WWE Elimination Chamber – Ignition

Despite the fact that a lot of people argue about and know that the WWE is staged, the Elimination Chamber is still no joke. The wrestlers that go into this chamber know very well that even if they’re pulling punches and not striking as hard as they possibly can accidents can happen and the crowd will love it. Just the sight of blood is enough incite the audience to increased fits of yelling and mayhem that will only become more pronounced as the match goes on. Watching this kind of match you can see that the some of the hits and the falls truly hurt, but the wrestlers are at least trained in how to fall and take a hit, though most of us probably wouldn’t want to try it out just to see how it feels.

3. The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift – Ooh Aah

It was kind of hard to see where this movie fit into the whole scheme of things until the next few started getting made, but it was kind of fun all the same since it stood out as its own movie with new characters that had nothing to do it seemed with those from the previous films. It was kind of a treat to see Dom at the very end after it was revealed that he knew Han and counted him as a part of his family. The only thing that seems to be left after the films kept rolling is why they didn’t bother to add Lucas Black to the roster. Maybe he was busy or they just didn’t consider him elite yet.

2. Never Back Down – The Slam

It’s one thing to never back down from a fight, but it’s another to go into a fight that you have no idea how to win. Jake and Ryan seemed destined to butt heads when Jake and his family had to move to a new home. Ryan was the popular kid that everyone knew could fight, whereas Jake was the new kid that was suckered into being forced to challenge based on the fact that he was seen fighting in an online video and was being measured by everyone around him. It’s only when Jake finally learns how to control his aggression that he learns what it means to really stand his ground and finally take the fight to Ryan in a way that’s unexpected.

1. TobyMac – The Elements

Whatever you might want to say about Christian hip hop the genre is real and it is something that people happen to like since TobyMac has done very well for himself throughout the years. It’s different, that’s for certain, but it’s also similar in its delivery and the punch it gives. Just because one is Christian and one isn’t doesn’t mean they can’t both be appreciated. People are going to like what they want to like, but the idea of music is that it’s a unifying force and is as universal as it gets.

Music is what brings us together in many ways.
