Some of us came to know about Chris Cornell only in passing, others were devout fans and had followed him since his rise in his earliest days, but there’s no denying that the world lost a gifted and very talented musician the day he was pronounced dead in his hotel room. Cornell was a member of the musical world that had managed to hang on through many a dark day and had even spoken out about his depression and sought help throughout the years. What happened to push him over that final edge is unknown, but his contributions to the world through music were great enough that some fans have actually been turned on after his passing and have discovered that he was one of the greats and could have possibly gone down as a legend had he stayed. The idea of burning out instead of fading away is a hard one to stomach for many people, especially when it means losing someone that is able to enrich the lives of those they touch.
Here are some of his best songs from the movies.
5. Machine Gun Preacher – The Keeper
Machine Gun Preacher is the story of Sam Childers, who took on an insurmountable task of first getting cleaned up as he’d been a drug-using alcoholic, and then decided to help the children in the Sudan by building an orphanage that could house and save them from the LRA. This kind of undertaking is something that would be daunting for just about anyone, but Sam took to it with a zeal that was nearly broken many times since the opposition did its best to break him through the disgusting and immoral acts they continued to perpetrate against the children. But through faith and with a great deal of help Sam continued to fight and he continued to do what he could for the kids.
4. Mission: Impossible II – Mission 2000
Anytime you see Tom Cruise playing Ethan Hunt you know the movie is going to be wild and possibly out of control. In this film he’s after a deadly virus that has the capability of wiping out a large population if it’s released into the air, and he’s up against an opponent that knows most if not all of his moves. The fight between such highly-skilled individuals was bound to be intense as well as jaw-dropping since the movie spared no expense when it came to the effects and the stunts that were, as always, death-defying. The story could have used just a little more work but the overall movie wasn’t too horrible.
3. 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi – Til the Sun Comes Back Around
This was among the many times in American history that people are reminded of the bravery of those that put their lives on the line for others and who are bred to not give up in the face of overwhelming adversity. Those that stayed in Benghazi to secure the Annex were those that knew that at any moment the militant group could possibly overrun them and cripple the outpost. Fortunately the men that were responsible for the safety and security of the building weren’t going to be moved so easily and mounted what comes down to a stunning defense in which several people lost their lives but the group still didn’t waver in their duty.
2. Casino Royale-You Know My Name
This was a new look into the origins of one of the famous, and infamous, spies to have ever been created. James Bond was and still is one of the most iconic characters in film and in this movie fans get to see how he started out, again, and get to watch him take on the bad guys in a new and even more impressive display of special effects and action than ever before. The whole bit with the poker game is pretty intense but it’s just one more part of the movie and also one that adds to the misdirection that is so common in Bond films. In a few ways you get to see Bond as you’ve never really seen him before in this film.
1. The Promise – The Promise
War has a very strange effect on a lot of people, though sometimes it only brings up new and unexpected feelings that tempt and guide those that feel them to something other than what they were intended to do in life. Mikael, Chris, and Ana were very different people but somehow their lives intertwined and in some odd way they became linked together somehow until their final parting. It is an odd thing how life can push people together during certain moments and then pull them apart without much warning. This is a part of the human condition however, and not something we can always predict.
That’s more true than ever in the case of Chris Cornell. He gave so much to people who wanted to give back, and yet somehow it just wasn’t enough. He is missed.Chris Cornell
