With the second season of The Resident coming up in just a couple of days it might be considered smart to brush up on just who’s who and what the series is all about. To this date a lot of people aren’t entirely comfortable in hospitals for their own reasons and upon watching this drama you might feel at least somewhat justified. Just keep in mind that the breach of ethics and the idea that medicine and the act of saving lives being a business is nothing new, it’s just coming to light more and more with every generation. How much care a person receives shouldn’t depend on how big their checkbook is or who they are as far as society goes, but the sad fact of the matter that such things do manage to come into effect more often than it seems, and on this show that dramatic fact is a little too poignant sometimes. But it makes for a great and very convincing drama.
Here are just a few of the actors you’ll be able to see when the show comes back.
Bruce Greenwood – Dr. Randolph Bell
Bruce Greenwood is what you’d call a long-timer in the business at this point since he’s been around since the 70s. He’s played the part of the hero, the villain, and he’s excelled at both. In this drama however he’s playing the surgeon that’s past his prime and doesn’t want to admit it but won’t own up to what he’s done. The business aspect of saving lives has kind of left him unable to accept the mistakes he makes, though going against him seems unwise, and thereby he gets to keep his position and eventually become CEO. It’s kind of detestable but at the same time seems too realistic.
Melinda Kanakaredes – Dr. Lane Hunter
Melinda has stuck primarily to TV since about 2013 since her last film role it looks like was in the movie Snitch. But she’s been a great addition to the show and helped to make season 1 stand out as it needed to in order to really get the attention required to keep going. As one of the more experienced cast members on the set she gets to play around with her character a bit to work the role to her liking but she also manages to incorporate her style with the rest of the cast and makes it work beautifully.
Manish Dayal – Dr. Devon Praves
If you recognize Manish it’s probably because you’ve seen him in a number of other shows such as 90210, Law & Order: SVU, Halt and Catch Fire, and several others before making his way to The Resident. He’s been a very busy man throughout the last decade and has been popping up in movies and TV shows pretty frequently so it’s easy to think about several areas where you’ve seen him before. Manish adds a good amount of experience as well as innovation to the show that plays off of his costars to great effect.
Emily VanCamp – Nicolette
She looks familiar doesn’t she? Take yourself back to the last two Captain America movies and you’ll recall that she plays the role of Sharon Carter, the woman interested in Steve Rogers and the S.H.I.E.L.D. agent that takes on Bucky along with Black Widow and gets effectively neutralized. She’s been a part of the MCU for the last several years now and has been making good on it for a while. There’s no telling if she’s coming back for the next Avengers movie since she wasn’t in Infinity War, but there’s always that chance. Until then her time on the show should prove advantageous for her career.
Matt Czuchry – Senior Resident Dr. Conrad Hawkins
Matt is pretty much the main character of the story and the one that’s going to be driving it or at least be close by when the other characters are experiencing their own arcs. He’s the guy that will get in the face of pretty much anyone that’s not doing their job or should be thinking about retiring as you can see in the clip below. As the senior resident of the hospital it’s his job to make sure that those he looks over are doing their jobs and are doing them in an ethical and professional way. Unfortunately what this means is that ethics sometimes takes a backseat to the more practical methods that aren’t always as easy to approve of when treating a patient.
This show might be labeled as a wake-up call to many people that enjoy a good hospital drama but then if that’s the case then people must have been snoozing through many such shows throughout the years. Be it a comedy, a drama, or something else, any show focusing on a hospital is eventually going to come down to a very serious representation of how such institutions are really operated.
