The Doctor Blake Mysteries is kind of an interesting show since it features a lead character that has returned after a 30-year absence to take over his father’s work and is a rather eccentric individual that is hard to work with and hard to really stand as a person. But throughout the show it’s seen that he’s one of those individuals you want to watch since he does present a rather intriguing figure that has a lot of life experience and is somehow a rather intelligent person despite his mannerisms and rather off-putting nature. All the same the show was almost cancelled since there were allegations of sexual misconduct levied towards the lead character. The Seven Network agreed to bring the show back in a series of telemovies using all the original cast save for the lead, as it might send a bad message to keep him on.
That seems hard to believe that they’d leave the character that the show’s named for out of it. But in any case, let’s meet the cast and see what they’re up to.
Belinda McClory – Alice Harvey
If you can you might remember best as Switch from The Matrix, the white-haired woman that called Neo “copper top”. She’s been prominent in TV and films since then and has had a pretty stable career for a while now. In fact she’s had multiple projects going for several years, keeping herself constantly on the go as she’s been trying to keep everything moving as much as possible.
Charles Cousins – Constable Charlie Davis
The Doctor Blake Mysteries have kind of been Charles’ bread and butter for the past several years as it seems that this is all he’s really been doing. Since the show he’s been seen in one of the TV movies that was created out of it and after that there’s really no record of him doing anything else. It could be that he’s working on another project at this time but so far it doesn’t seem as though anything has been updated or reported, so perhaps he’s working or taking a break.
Joel Tobeck – Chief Superintendent Matthew Lawson
Tobeck is pretty recognizable since he’s been in films such as The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, Stealth, and 30 Days of Night. But it’s been since 2015 that he’s been seen on the big screen and he’s focused primarily on TV it would seem. He did make it into such shows as Spartacus: War of the Damned, Power Ranger Samurai, and Ash vs. Evil Dead. He is currently starring in a show titled Harrow, so he’s managed to stay fairly busy.
Cate Wolfe – Matilda O’Brien
She was on the show up until about 2016 and then went on to other ventures, which have kept her pretty busy to date since she’s still working and still finding her way through the industry in one role after another. She managed to find a part in a show titled Offspring and also stars in a film titled Trench. To be honest she seems to be in one of the best positions of anyone that was on the show since her work has been fairly steady and hasn’t lapsed at all between TV and film.
Nadine Garner – Jean Beazley
Nadine is still working away as she is currently filming one of the Doctor Blake TV movies after having starred in the film, Celeste. She’s been firmly entrenched in the Doctor Blake Mysteries for a while and could be trying to work her way out of it or trying to keep herself firmly in it, as the stories do involve her character quite a bit seeing as she’s one of the main characters and can’t just walk away so easily.
Craig McLachlan – Dr. Lucien Blake
Craig was unfortunately hit with a sexual harassment suit by three different women that he worked with at one time and while he’s claiming that they’re all false two of them are being looked into, and the show was suspended as a result. Even when he was cleared however he wasn’t invited back to the show despite the fact that it will be moving on without him and will be simply titled The Blake Mysteries. This is a big blow to his career to be honest and it doesn’t seem like he’s done much since when it comes to acting. His singing career hasn’t yielded anything in many years so it’s uncertain just what’s going to become of him following this mess.
You could say that sexual harassment suits and allegations have been hammering down hard on a lot of actors over the last year and a half and you wouldn’t be too far off the mark. But the only one that really seems affected by this in any negative way is McLachlan, who was once the lead character and now has to find a way to salvage his career.
