Ethan Peck is a guy that has big shoes to fill on more than one count when it comes to his name and his acting ability. So far it seems as though he’s been up to the challenge but coming from a non-Trekkie it seems as though such an opinion might not be the best when talking about someone that’s been put into such a role as he has. He’s definitely earned his spot and been a positive addition to many of the projects he’s worked on since he’s been completely professional and done his best to make each movie and TV show that he’s featured in something that people will remember. But unfortunately when you share a lineage like that of Peck then you kind of have to keep up the act or risk a lot of people stating that the apple falls far from the tree, or some junk like that.
So far he’s been doing just fine. Here’s a few things you might not have known about him.
10. He’s the grandson of Gregory Peck.
This is one reason why he’s got a lot to live up to. Growing up he’s stated that he never looked to his grandfather as anything but Grandpa, as he was his elder and a lot of fun to be around. But now he admits that he wishes he could ask his grandfather a great many questions when it comes to acting.
9. He was cast as Spock in Star Trek: Discovery.
Here’s the second thing he’s going to have to excel at since as anyone knows Spock is a role that cannot, CAN NOT, be screwed up if the actor wants to gain the favor of the fans. The Nimoy family seems to be on board with Peck’s casting and have given him his blessing, so there’s even more pressure to do well.
8. He was an athlete in high school.
He played several sports including football and lacrosse when he was in school, which means that he’s definitely fit and likes to stay active. That’s a very good thing since Spock was never represented as a so-so kind of character when it came to his figure.
7. He learned how to play the cello.
More and more this guy seems like a perfect Spock since he seems physically capable and is even sophisticated enough in his hobbies that he seems as though he has the discipline and the mental fortitude to take on the role.
6. He was in the film In Time.
He didn’t have a big part in this movie but the movie itself was entirely underrated as it points out just how fleeting time really is when you don’t have a lot of it versus when you have too much. It asks you, what do you do with the time you have?
5. He has a black belt in Shotokan karate.
This is a guy that you probably wouldn’t want to mess with in an off-handed sort of way simply because karate is not something that teaches weakness or is based just on a points system no matter what anyone says. It’s the kind of discipline that gets you ready for a fight.
4. He was in the TV version of 10 Things I Hate About You.
The TV version, based on the movie, didn’t do all that well, but it was a step in the right direction for his career at least and managed to last just long enough to be remembered. Sometimes the movie really nails it though and nothing else needs to be said.
3. He was in The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.
He’s had some extremely small roles in which he’s been an extra or is just there as a warm body to use for one purpose or another, but it’s all managed to help him build a career. Sometimes you’ve got to just be there and do nothing in order to take in the experience.
2. He’s been around since 1995.
His career has been building for a while and it would seem that it’s reaching a peak as getting the part of Spock is nothing to sneeze at no matter if it’s in TV or in the movies. At the rate things are going it might be the TV show that ends up becoming Star Trek’s new legacy and not the movies.
1. He was Mary-Kate Olsen’s first onscreen kiss in Passport to Paris.
Say what you want about the Olsen twins, a lot of people do be it good or ill, but there was a time when they were insanely popular even as they were becoming insanely rich. Nowadays their most diehard fans would be the only ones that might remember moments like these.
He’s hitting a high point in his career at this time and there’s no doubt that he’ll have a lot of people anxiously watching him to see what he can do.
