It’s Probably Time for another Pippi Longstocking Movie

If there are any rumors of the classic Pippi Longstocking being given another chance at the movies they’re being kept well under wraps at this moment. It seems okay to think that a lot of us might remember the fiery-haired, and tempered, young girl from the stories we read so long ago. She did have her shot at movies and TV and they did fairly well when it came to kids actually liking and believing in Pippi, but like all things that came about in the 80’s and 90’s, and even earlier, Pippi’s story eventually gave way to the more mainstream ideas that flooded kids’ minds with the fantastical ideas that were so very popular at that time.

In truth Pippi was first published in the 40’s and hasn’t changed a whole lot since. In this day and age however there would probably be a need to change her up just enough to show a more modern face to the world even if she remained the same wild and rascally young girl that so many people remember fondly. As it’s been seen with some films modernizing the feel of the film isn’t a bad thing and it can help people relate to the character a lot better. In Pippi’s case there wouldn’t be much that needed to change other than her dialogue and her attitude, and possibly her style. In terms of her attitude she could still be the same carefree young girl that she’s always been, but it would probably be best if she was allowed to develop into a little more of a well-rounded character rather than the same person she’s been for so long.

This almost seems like something that Ron Howard would be able to take over and do something extraordinary with since his sense of style and his expertise could probably bring Pippi to life better than anyone else. As for the star of the show there are a number of young ladies that could possibly be used for the part. A few that come to mind are Bella Thorn, Jacqueline Emerson, Sophie Turner, Elle Fanning, and several others. It might even be worth it to consider making Pippi into a young black woman simply to shake things up and gain a little bit of diversity. While it might not happen since it could raise a tremendous stink it’s still an interesting idea.

Bringing Pippi Longstocking back to life would be a proposition that might bear fruit to be honest since a lot of children’s classics that were popular either before or during the time that a lot of us were kids is being seen as a favorable endeavor these days. Call it nostalgia or just a need to bring back the past now and again, but it would be nice to see the things we can remember as kids back on the big screen or at least on TV now and again. If nothing else it would allow us to finally show our own kids and the younger generations that what was popular back then can easily be translated into today’s pop culture scene. As for adventures, well, just pick a couple and go with it. Pippi Longstocking wasn’t ever idle if you can recall.
