Matthew McConaughey’s talents go way beyond the silver screen, even though he already gets actor, director, producer, and writer credits in Hollywood. That’s a distinction that not many actors can boast of. In addition to his Hollywood career, award-winning McConaughey also happens to be a teacher at the University of Texas — Austin. He also started just keep livin, a foundation dedicated to helping teens lead better lives. He also happens to be the spokesperson for a few brands including Lincoln, Carls, Jr., and Wild Turkey.
Actually, McConaughey is more than just a spokesperson for Wild Turkey. He was named creative director for the brand in 2016. Recently, the actor has increased his involvement in the company further and his venture into the liquor business altogether. Wild Turkey is an American brand of Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey that’s been around for over a hundred years. McConaughey certainly knows what he was doing when he got into business with Wild Turkey because it’s one of the most successful bourbon brands in the nation. He has been a passionate brand advocate, appearing and directing several commercials for the brand since he has become its spokesperson.
McConaughey, along with his mom and Wild Turkey master distiller Eddie Russell, recently made an announcement that he is launching his own brand of bourbon that is called Wild Turkey Longbranch. According to the actor, Longbranch is made with eight-year-old Wild Turkey bourbon. Longbranch has a bright golden color that’s reminiscent of a Texan sunset. It has an enticing aroma profile of spices and vanilla, and it incorporates flavors of caramel, pear, and light citrus hints. It’ll also have notes of gentle pepper and toasted oak. Longbranch is buttery smooth and will finish with subtlety and smokiness. McConaughey is very much proud of this collaboration and has been working with Eddie Russell effectively for a while now.
According to McConaughey, the process for creating Longbranch was in no shape or form easy at all. It took a long time, and it took a lot of work to achieve what eventually ended up in the bottles. McConaughey was very patient when it came to finding the right taste for the Longbranch brand. He literally took the drink to various places at different times to see what the drink would taste like at different moments. That’s the type of dedicated development process that you won’t get with anyone else other than McConaughey. He said that when he finally found the right taste, he knew it right away.
The small-batch straight bourbon Longbranch is expected to be available on shelves by May of this year. We can expect pricing around the $40 mark–give or take–and we can expect the market to expand outside of the U.S. by the end of the year. The Longbranch brand is a true homage to McConaughey’s home state of Texas. Expect to get some mesquite out of it, and expect for McConaughey to pop into your head, saying, “Alright, alright, alright,” every time you take a sip.
