Zooey Deschanel, Rebel Wilson, and Taye Diggs will be teaming up to perform a special rendition of Beauty and the Beast at the famed Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles this coming May. The excitement for those that live near or within range of the venue is intense as people can only imagine at this point just how wonderful the experience will be and what kind of show the actors will be putting on. The actors will be singing along with the movie as it’s show on a screen, mirroring the songs as they lend their voices to the orchestra that will be accompanying them. Deschanel will be singing the parts of Belle, while Diggs will play Gaston and Wilson will play LeFou. Kelsey Grammar will play the part of Lumiere and Jane Krakowski will be taking on the part of Mrs. Potts.
Now you might think that no one save Angela Lansbury could possibly play the part of Mrs. Potts to a tee, yes pun totally intended, but keep in mind that Emma Thompson did a very good job in the live action movie and Krakowski is a noted singer. Angela Lansbury is in her nineties now and isn’t likely to be able to perform quite as well as she did years ago, but her voice talents did set the bar during the animated movie, so it’s with great respect that the part of Mrs. Potts is being given over to those that can give it the dignity it deserves. As for the others, Gaston by Diggs seems like an odd choice but then if you’ve never heard the man sing then it might be wise to hold off on judgment for now until the night of the event. Wilson has proven that she can sing, but taking up the role of a male character might be kind of interesting to hear since she might have to adjust her voice just slightly in order to get LeFou just right. It’s very possible though as this cast has proven in the past that they are all uniquely talented.
Even better for audience members is that there will be a chance to participate in a costume contest at some point during the event, so expect to see a great many Belle’s, Gaston’s, Beast’s and other characters making their way to the event in order to partake of the highly anticipated night. The story of Beauty and the Beast is one that has transcended time and generations with such grace that it is by far one of the more successful stories that Disney has ever pushed forth. From the rich and detailed settings to the great acting that has been able to give this story the depth and feeling it deserves the tale of Beauty and the Beast has been adapted into something that might very well continue to pass the test of time as more and more young minds are drawn to the alluring magic that makes it possible.
It should be a fun and engaging event for the entire audience.
