Detecting undetectable poisons seems to have the downfall that once a person knows just what it is and how it was used, the person that was exposed to it will likely be dead. Several of them are tasteless and odorless and their lethal doses tend to be very low. This means that a teaspoon or far less could kill a person within minutes to hours, if not slightly longer. There are some that have a sweet taste or smell but are still not easily detected in the bloodstream. Throughout history medical examiners have been trying to keep up on poisons and how to detect any symptoms of their ingestion. The problem however is that some poisons mimic others in terms of how they affect the body. Despite the advances in toxicology and the medical field there are still a lot of questions that have to be posed before a physician understands just what kind of poison they’re dealing with.
Detecting the poisons seen in the video seems like it would be impossible, and in some cases it would be if you count the fact that the survival rate when ingesting these poisons in significant amounts would be extremely low. This might frighten a lot of people but one thing to take note of is that a lot of people will thankfully not put anything in their mouth that doesn’t look like food. Even if something is shown in a powder form it is wise to understand what it is before deciding to do anything with it. The kind of poisons on this list are those that can kill without a doubt and don’t need a lot of the substance to accomplish such a feat. Poisons have been known throughout history as one of the most devious but effective ways to kill a person, as with the right poison it is possible to accomplish such a thing and allay any suspicions towards oneself.
Such methods might still be used today but thankfully it’s not as prevalent as it used to be since the ability to test poisons postmortem has become so much better. It’d be nice to find a way to detect these poisons while the person about to ingest them was still alive, but at this point scientists are no doubt working on such an issue when it seems feasible. Being that people don’t poison one another on a regular basis any longer it’s not as much of a going concern, but accidental poisons do happen occasionally and it’s good to know just what to look for and, in the case of those few poisons that are slow-acting, it’d be a good idea to know what was happening on the ride to the doctor’s office.
Poisoning is a much rarer thing these days but the fact that it’s something we as a society need to worry about is kind of troublesome. While a good number of these poisons appear in nature, some of them have been manufactured and are able to be produced by those that know their chemicals. Kind of a scary thought isn’t it?
