If people aren’t happy with the Venom teaser trailer then they need to get over it. The film doesn’t come out until October and as a rule a ‘teaser’ trailer is only meant to tease the audience, not give them absolutely everything about the movie. To be quite honest you don’t get to see Venom in the form that everyone was expecting, but you do get to see the symbiote contained inside of a glass case as it writhes and squirms. So what exactly are people griping about? It’s because teaser trailers in the recent past have given just about as much a regular trailer and unfortunately that’s a horrible idea no matter who’s in charge.
A teaser trailer isn’t meant to show that much. It’s mean to show just enough to get your attention and leave you wanting more, nothing else. But people have grown so used to getting as much as they want in a trailer that some ads have decided to go ahead and give some of the best parts of the movie when showcasing it for the first time. Ever since it was announced that Tom Hardy would be showing up as the black-clad villain turned anti-hero people have been losing their minds at every possible mention. The only trouble is that not showing them enough is turning out to be a very bad idea, even if it’s the best thing that could happen. Some people might be turned off by the stingy move but others will no doubt be waiting for the full trailer to come out with great anticipation, ready to absorb everything they can about it so that they can start devising theories. I’d bet dollars to donuts that at this moment there’s already a small legion of fans and journalists doing just that as they try to go frame by frame and figure out just what’s going to happen.
My only hope is that with Tom Hardy I hope that Venom can finally be shown as he needs to be. The character is a classic from Spider-Man comics and needs to be rendered in as professional a manner as possible, since he’s so incredibly dangerous and and yet heroic in his later versions. Venom is a tough character as well, vulnerable to only a couple of things and able to achieve incredible feats that made him one of Spider-Man’s deadliest enemies. But let’s face it, Topher Grace was not the guy for the role, and Tom Hardy should be able to do a much better job. The only thing is that it’s already been confirmed that we won’t be seeing Spider-Man, which means this will be after Eddie Brock has bonded with the alien symbiote. It kind of has to be since otherwise Spidey would need to be part of the story.
Who knows, it might happen now that Disney owns the rights. It’s even possible that we could start seeing some classic matchups on film just like we’ve always wanted. But as to the disappointment in the teaser trailer, get over it people. After all, there’s more to come.
