Vampirina is a charming cartoon on Disney Jr. about a family of vampires that travels from Transylvania to Pennsylvania to open up a Scare B&B for both humans and monsters. The main character, Vampirina, is a young vampire who finds it necessary to adjust to humans just as they must adjust to her and the strange habits that she and her family have brought with them. The cartoon has already been given the go ahead for a second season and will be returning to entertain children once again along with her parents, best friends, and strange but always fun companions.
It’s not your common Disney show, but that could be why it’s a hit.
5. James Van Der Beek voices the part of the father.
Yep, the one and only Van Der Beek is voicing the father of the family, Boris Hauntley. It might not sound like him at first but if you ever get the chance to watch the cartoon and listen closely you’ll hear his telltale voice behind the fake accent that he uses. I had to go ahead and watch an episode just to take a listen, but it’s him for sure.
4. It was adapted from the Vampirina Ballerina series from Disney.
Before she was a cartoon Vampirina was a vampire that aspired to be a ballerina. Her skin color was much different and she didn’t look like the whip-thin little girl with the batwing pigtails that you see on the show. Her troubles in the book had more to do with not taking a bite out of her fellow classmates, perfecting her form when she couldn’t see herself in the mirror, and finding a class at night. The cartoon version can move about in the day and doesn’t worry about her reactions towards her classmates.
3. The creator of the show also created Doc McStuffins.
That could be why it’s already been seen a hit considering the success of Doc McStuffins. The creator obviously stumbled onto a bit of formulaic success when it came to adapting their chosen characters to the screen. Doc McStuffins has fully integrated into the Disney scene and it would appear that Vampirina is poised and set to do the same.
2. Lauren Graham plays the part of the mother.
The Gilmore girl is hard to take note of in that fake Transylvania accent but just like Van Der Beek, if you listen closely you’ll hear her very familiar tones. It’s pretty impressive to think of the talent that was pulled together to make this cartoon what it is. Now all that needs to happen is to keep them around so that the show doesn’t lose it’s edge.
1. Wanda Sykes plays Gregoria, the gargoyle sidekick.
Wanda Sykes has done a lot in her career and she’s almost always made what she does better simply because she comes at it with an attitude that’s fun and yet sassy all at the same time. As Gregoria she’s a part of the family that’s been around for centuries but she’s also the voice of reason when she needs to be.
It’d be easy to see this show go for a third season as well.
