Five Things You Didn’t Know about Elodie Yung

Elodie Yung is a French actress that has been in a fair number of movies and TV shows, some of which you might recall came out in the last few years. She’s played a few roles that people might even recall from pop culture favorites such as G.I. Joe and Daredevil. She played the role of Jinx, a ninja in the G.I. Joe universe that’s not too well known but apprenticed under Snake Eyes, while in Daredevil she plays the lethal role of Elektra, an assassin of the Hand and the love interest of Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil. She’s also been in films such as Gods of Egypt and the recent hit The Hitman’s Bodyguard with Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson. So to say that she has rubbed shoulders with some of the best would be fair.

And she’s still going strong, hopefully for some time.

5. She has a black belt in karate.

Growing up on the outskirts of Paris she claims that life was kind of rough and she had to know how to defend herself. That makes sense and it was quite advantageous as it could have possibly helped her land the role of Elektra. Anyone that actually knows what they’re doing when it comes to martial arts seems like they’d be a boon to a show such as Daredevil.

4. She’s the first non-American actress to play Elektra.

Unless there was another woman to play Elektra before Jennifer Garner, and I have not heard that there was, then she would also be just the second. To say that she’s a decided improvement however would be an understatement in the eyes of many fans. Her look, her acting, and her ability to pull off the role are what have made her an invaluable member of the cast.

3. She auditioned for the role of Wonder Woman.

Elodie might have made a good Amazon but with all due respect I think she probably got passed for good reason and should be thankful. Her look is just a little too severe for Diana Prince it would seem and besides that landing in Daredevil and then the Defenders was something that she seemed to be made for. Sometimes the failure to get one part means that another one is coming up.

2. She wanted to appear in the Defenders.

After doing Daredevil it sounds like Elodie was enthused and fully on board for coming back if they would have her. As luck would have it the writers were told to bring her back in since it would obviously make sense to bring the best assassin the Hand had back to life so that she could serve them yet again. The other members of the Hand were a little campy to be honest, but she was perfect.

1. She didn’t know she was auditioning for Daredevil.

Apparently everything was quite hush hush and she wasn’t told what she was auditioning for until she got the part. That might make it seem a little strange but it would also seem like it would make things kind of nerve-wracking.

Let’s hope Elektra sticks around for a while.
