If you can believe 2018 will mark the 40th year since The Cure came together as one of the most iconic bands to ever be heard on the music scene. They’ll be celebrating by holding a live show in Hyde Park this coming summer along with several other influential and highly sought after bands in order to mark this awesome milestone. Chances are however that they won’t be making their way across the pond to the US since they spent a good deal of their time touring around the states in 2016, so the best way to catch them would be to book a ticket to England sometime before next summer if that’s possible. This is one show that any Cure fan won’t want to miss since it will be showcasing such a momentous occasion. In fact in honor of the coming moment here are a few songs that some would argue are among the best of The Cure.
There are a lot of songs that people would want to see here, but these are the ones that seem to get the most love.
5. In Between Days
An interesting story behind this track is that Robert Smith admitted to never playing on a good six-string metal acoustic guitar since he’d never owned a good one. Once he picked it up however he started playing and the notes just seemed to come to him, which was fortunate since this soon became one of the most popular songs ever produced by the band.
4. Disintegration
This was almost the death knell of the band as some might know and some might not. Smith, who turned 30 around the time he was making this song, was into some very hard drugs and had been going through a rough time in his life. In fact he didn’t know at that time if he wanted to keep the band going. Thankfully things didn’t completely fall apart.
3. Just Like Heaven
This touched a lot of people on a very fundamental level since Smith was known to expound upon the relationship he had with his wife. Unfortunately the label they were under wanted him to reproduce more songs of this type and Smith wasn’t into repeating himself all that often, if at all. Can you really blame him? They had a unique sound that needed to stay as pure as possible.
2. A Forest
The group has played this song more than any of their others as it’s been said and whether it’s radio friendly or not Smith has admitted that it’s one of his favorites. They cut the album that this song went along with in eight days, and they gave this one song in particular a great deal of attention since it resonated with them so much. You’ve got to go with what works for the artist.
1. Pictures of You
This had a lot to do with a fire that broke out in Smith’s home at one time, causing a lot of damage before it was all over with. When he looked through what was left of his home he found pictures of his wife, and that was a big part of what inspired the song.
