Just when you think that you have heard all that you can possibly hear concerning the ever-expanding scandal concerning sexual harassment in the media world, some new shocking allegations emerge that implement another power player from Hollywood or the news media. Earlier this year, Bill O’Reilly took his tumble due to multiple allegations of sexual harassment. At the time there were no faces to attached to those allegations; however, we now know that one of the accusers is former Fox News anchor, Juliet Huddy, who reportedly settled with Fox News for an undisclosed amount. We do know that the total settlement that Fox paid to settle claims against O’Reilly totaled $13 million.
While you may remember Juliet’s face, there is a lot that you probably don’t know about her, so here are five facts to bring you up to speed.
1. She Claims the Harassment Started After an Invitation to O’Reilly’s Home
According to a recent interview, Huddy revealed that she received several invitations to O’Reilly’s home on Long Island. She revealed that O’Reilly answer the door in his boxers. This was the beginning of What Juliet claims was an ongoing situation in which O’Reilly was sexually inappropriate in the manner in which he dealt with her. She also shared that O’Reilly attempted to kiss her during a guided tour of his home.
2. O’Reilly Became Hostile and Aggressive
Juliet gave a very detailed account of her encounters with Bill O’Reilly, suggesting that once she rejected his advances, he became hostile and aggressive toward her. She said that he was very critical of her work and that he often berated her for making the smallest of mistakes. It is obvious that her claims of retaliation by O’Reilly were substantiated by the subsequent investigation by Fox.
3. She Was Also Harassed by Jack Abernethy
Not only does Juliet claim that Jack Abernethy at Fox also sexually harassed her, but she claims that Fox was aware of the allegations prior to promoting Abernethy to his role as Co-President. Abernethy was also accused of retaliating against Huddy after she would not have a personal relationship with him. At the time that this began, he was the CEO of Fox Television Stations. Despite being aware of these allegations, Fox awarded Abernethy with even more power.
4. She Did Have At Least One Ally at Fox
As it turns out, Juliet was not completely alone as she worked her way up through the ranks at Fox. She happens to be the Goddaughter of former Fox executive, Roger Ailes, who was eventually forced out. Huddy credits Ailes with mentoring her and developing her throughout her career at Fox. She also says that Ailes was a remarkable boss to work for.
5. She Didn’t Mention the Allegations Upon her Departure in 2016
One the pressure and frustration mounted for Juliet, she determined that it was time to leave Fox. While the network removed her bio from its official site and she removed all mentions of the network from her Twitter profile, she didn’t mention the allegations upon her departure. It was only recently that she was identified as one of the accusers that shook things up at Fox.
