The Top Uses of Stone Temple Pilots Songs in Movies or TV

This band brings back memories from school days when grunge was still a thing and bands like this were still tearing up the charts. They weren’t strictly grunge but they were there for and were considered part of the same era and had to compete a great deal in order to get noticed. Once they did however STP made the charts on a pretty regular basis for a while. They were considered one of the hottest acts to come out of California in a long time, but unfortunately once they got rid of Scott Weiland their popularity kind of dwindled. The lead singer of STP had been having some big problems throughout his life, many that were drug-related, and had been on the outs with the band for a while before they finally parted ways in 2013. Since then their sound just hasn’t been the same even though they’re still not that bad. Unfortunately Weiland passed away in 2015 from a drug overdose. While he was just a part of the band he was their voice and a big part of the reason why they were so sought after.

Since his parting and then passing things just aren’t quite the same.

5. This Is 40-Vaseline

As someone edging up to this number this film really hit home since despite age being just a number, the idea of hitting the fourth decade of life leaves a lot of people wondering just what they’ve done with their lives. It’s a question that gets asked more and more when we see the younger generation doing so much more than we ever dreamed was possible. Remember though, we were that same way and got the same looks from the adults of our era.

4. Beavis & Butthead-Plush

This is the song that turned a lot of STP fans on to the band. It was one of the songs that got the most play when they first came out and one of the few that you can still hear occasionally on the radio if you’re lucky. Their sound was heavy enough back in the days of their first album that could believe that they were going to stick around for a while. They did just that too, right up until 2002 when they split for several years.

3. Saturday Night Live-Creep

This was kind of a hard song to get used to since it didn’t really seem to fit with the rest of STP’s tracks which were harder and less inclined to let Weiland just croon along to the beat. It became a favorite though of many people either for its message or its mellow feel, it all depended on the individual. Like I said though, it was an adjustment for fans that were used to the harder songs.

2. Unplugged-Wicked Garden

Unplugged was an MTV idea that started in 1989 and went on for a long period of time, featuring artists and bands that would come onstage and do their songs live and without as much effect as they would normally do in a video or on a live stage. It caught on and attracted some very notable bands and artists such as STP, Nirvana, Eric Clapton, and many others.

1. The Crow-Big Empty

It pays to have a classic sound in a classic movie. Whether you liked The Crow or not doesn’t matter, it’s a cult classic that people still enjoy for the movie itself and for the soundtrack. It’s part of a great legacy for the old school STP fans.

Stone Temple Pilots back in the day were just awesome.
