It will be nice to see Jon Hamm in a starring role again, and a lead role at that. He’s been squandered so much in feature films at this point that a lot of people are starting wonder just when someone that sees his true potential is going to be able to bring him back to the front and use his talents in a more efficient way. In the thriller Off Season he’s set to be the main protagonist as a man that goes searching for his elderly father after he disappears. The journey then takes him across the frozen Canadian tundra, and allows him to uncover more family secrets than he knew about initially.
Jon Hamm is a favorite of many already thanks to his role as Don Draper in Mad Men, but since then he didn’t get to do much that people really remember him for. Lately he had a fairly big role in the film Baby Driver that saw him as the only surviving antagonist and the one man standing between the lead character and his chance at a happy life. He plays a good villain but the film Million Dollar Arm saw him come out as an uncertain protagonist that not a lot of people remember now. The film itself was a bit of a flop as even Disney, who was responsible for the film, can attest to.
Hamm has a definite talent for acting which makes it kind of confusing as to why he hasn’t been given more projects in the last several years. He’s got the look, the attitude, and the charm to be a big star, but for some reason he’s been passed over for several projects. The idea that he’s not ready for this is kind of ridiculous since he’s an award-winning actor and can outperform a lot of people when it comes to his parts and doesn’t shy away from the opportunity to show just what he’s made of.
Maybe when this movie hits more people will see what he has to really offer on the big screen and will be convinced of the fact that he’s worth the effort of bringing on to a set. His acting credits are already impressive and he’s shown time and again that he can be just as good as anyone onscreen. Perhaps the whole idea that he’s not among the ranks of the most famous A-listers just yet is what’s keeping him down, when in reality he should be the one that people are talking about most often.
Hollywood is a very brutal place it seems when it comes to fame. Either you get it and hold onto it by any means possible or you’re out and being replaced within a day. The revolving door that exists in Hollywood never seems to stop spinning, and unless you can get in show that you’re worth the time and effort of sticking around a while then you’re bound to be taking the quick ride before being flung out the other side to be forgotten.
I don’t think that’s a worry that Jon Hamm should be entertaining.
