Is There a Chance That Han Solo Returns To Star Wars?

There is a fair amount of interest in the Star Wars fandom in seeing Han Solo return to the franchise. Fortunately for them, Han Solo will be making a return to the movie screen in the near future. Unfortunately, it won’t be the Han Solo that became so memorable to them in the first three Star Wars movies.

In short, the Star Wars setting is huge. As a result, it has more than enough room to accommodate a wide range of narratives, which is why Disney is planning to make a number of movies centered around characters as well as events that were brought up but never centered upon in the main Star Wars movies. This is the choice that led to Rogue One, which was centered around how the Rebellion secured the plans to the Death Star, thus enabling their miraculous victory in Episode IV. Furthermore, this is the choice that will lead to the upcoming Star Wars movie centered around Han Solo, which has been said to be undergoing a lot of reshooting at the moment because of conflicts between the movie studio and the previous person in charge of making the movie.

Regardless, even once the movie comes out, its Han Solo will not be the Han Solo that Star Wars fans remember. After all, the movie is supposed to be centered around Han Solo at a much earlier point in his career, meaning that he won’t be played by Harrison Ford but rather by Alden Ehrenreich. It remains to be seen whether Ehrenreich will be able to provide a performance worth watching or not, but even if he succeed, it won’t be the same as seeing Ford on the movie screen.

Will Harrison Ford Ever Return to Star Wars?

Unfortunately for people who have been hoping to see Ford make a return to the Star Wars franchise, said occurrence might not be impossible, but it is the next thing to being impossible. First, this is because Han Solo was killed in Episode VIII, meaning that it would be a serious challenge to come up with either a plausible or even a semi-plausible explanation for his return without becoming ridiculous in the process. Second, Ford has little interest in returning to the Star Wars franchise. In fact, he wanted the character to die in the first three Star Wars movies sacrificing himself for his friends and made the character’s death a condition for his return in Episode VIII. Theoretically, something could happen in the future that will convince Ford to make a return to the Stars Wars franchise, which in turn, might convince the people running the franchise to slot him into it in some manner. In practice, that is a rather improbable scenario to say the least.

Of course, probabilities have never stopped people from hoping against hope. For example, Kelly Ripa asked Ford about whether he would return to the Star Wars franchise on her talk show, which resulted in a firm “No” from the veteran actor. After which, Ripa responded by saying that she would see him in the new Star Wars movie. While it was a funny line, it is nonetheless not something that Star Wars fans should base their expectations upon.
