You can bet that someone would be in trouble if this house, bar, whatever, was fully built without any permission or even a word to the creators of the Simpsons. Yet someone is still willing to build a Moe’s Tavern in Buenos Aires, Argentina without checking if it’s okay first. Oh well, better to ask forgiveness than beg for permission, right? At least we hope that would be that case.
A lot of fans catching wind of this would be on the next flight to Buenos Aires just to take a selfie with this place in the background, if they were allowed obviously. It’s private property without a doubt, but it’s also unsure as to whether this place is going to be a bar inside a house or a house inside a bar or what. It’s a bit of confusion that is hard to eliminate since there’s no way to get inside the house without being busted for a B&E and the owners don’t seem to be too chatty at the moment. Maybe they’re hoping no one will notice the obvious Simpsons reference that they’re adding to the exterior.
Do the Simpsons creators get down to Buenos Aires that often? It doesn’t seem like it would matter since this photo is now fully ingrained on the internet and probably won’t be coming down any time soon. So yeah, it might be best if they started writing an apology now, but I’m not too sure how that particular law works with private residences. If the place is planning on running a business then of course it would need the permission or suffer a cease and desist letter much like the Stranger Things pop up bar in Chicago did. They had to shut down by the first of this month as per the letter from Netflix, but would it apply to a private residence?
That’s hard to tell really since a private residence might actually be able to be painted as whatever the owner likes no matter if they obtained the necessary permission or not. After all a lot of people have hung flags and even painted their homes in the colors of favorite sports teams and added logos without having to ask the corporate offices if it’s okay. So why would this be any different if a person paints their home like Moe’s Tavern from the Simpsons?
Now if they’re doing business that’s a different matter altogether of course. A business would either have to shut down entirely or perhaps give up a good deal of their profits to acquire the rights to the name and appearance that have both been trademarked. That seems like it wouldn’t be worth it really since this little dwelling probably wouldn’t pull in a lot of customers since it’s in a relatively quiet area. But all in all I happen to think that it’s a residence that has been painted to look like a bar. But then again I could be wrong. If I am then this place might be in a wee bit of trouble soon.
