‘Halloween Wars’ is a reality competition on Food Network. It is produced by the Super Delicious, the creators of ‘Cake Wars’ and ‘Cupcake Wars’. It is shown over four weeks in October during the Halloween season and was aired for the first time on October 2, 2011. Five teams compete to win the big prize at the end of the series by completing challenges relating to horror themes. They must use their skills in cake sculpting, sugar crafting, and pumpkin carving to complete the tasks. Each week, the judges choose a winner and the least successful team is eliminated. The new season of ‘Halloween Wars’ began on October 2, 2017, with this year’s finale airing on October 30, 2017. 1. Jonathan Bennett is the Host
The original host was Justin Williams who hosted the first four seasons of this series. He was followed by Rossi Morreale who was the host for just one season. The series is currently hosted by Jonathan Bennet. He has already hosted season six of the series and is set to host season seven. Bennett is an actor and model who is known for his appearances in movies such as ‘Mean Girls’ and ‘Cheaper by the Dozen 2′. He is also the host on ‘Cake Wars’, another show aired on the Food Network.
2. Todd Tucker is the New Second Judge
There are three judges on the show. The first and only permanent judge is Shinmin Li who is an award-winning cake artist. The second judge has changed over the seasons and has included Miles Teves, Brian Kinney, and Don Mancini. The second judge for season seven has been announced as the director and effects artist, Todd Tucker. He is best-known for directing movies such as ‘Monster Mutt’, ‘Scary Movie 4′, and ‘Trailer Park of Terror’.
3. There is a Significant Grand Prize
While the contestants have fun on this show, it is not just the experience that entices them to take part. There is a significant grand prize that is well-worth aiming for. The winners of ‘Halloween Wars’ are the lucky recipients of a cheque for $50,000, an amount that is not to be sniffed at.
4. Many of the Teams Have Wacky Names
Each team consists of three people who each have their own specialism; cake decoration, sugarcraft, or pumpkin carving. The teams must have a name and these are usually wacky. Some of the best examples of team names include ‘2 Ghouls and a Guy’, ‘No Guts No Gory’, ‘Corpse Crushers’, and ‘The Underbakers’.
5. There are Small Scare and Spine Chiller Challenges
Each week, the teams must take part in two challenges related to the theme of the week to determine one team as the winner and one team for elimination. The small scare challenge is a smaller task that involves creating a specific object using their combined skills. The spine chiller challenge is a larger task that involves creating a horror-related scene for which the teams are given a briefing they must meet.
