Disney is known for the diversity of the films they release. Recently, they have concentrated most of their efforts on their bigger franchises, such as Star Wars and Marvel. However, this doesn’t mean they have abandoned the light-hearted family movies for which they are best-known. One such film that Disney are planning is ‘Nicole’. This festive movie is about the daughter of Santa Claus and it is now several months since rumors began about this movie. Here is what we know about the movie so far.
Anna Kendrick
It has been announced that the lead role of Nicole will be played by Anna Kendrick. This is not the first time this talented actress has had a major role in a movie by Disney. In the 2014 musical fantasy film ‘Into the Woods’, Kendrick played Cinderella. She has also had many other major roles in movies. Her performance in ‘Up in the Air’, a 2009 comedy drama, earned her a nomination for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. She has also had parts in successful movies including ‘The Twilight Saga’, Pitch Perfect’, ‘End of Watch’, and ‘50/50′. As she is now a well-established actress who has demonstrated fantastic comedic skills, Disney believes that she is the perfect choice for this role.
Other Cast Members
Anna Kendrick is not the only big name that Disney has confirmed for this movie. Bill Hader will play the son of Santa Claus and brother of Nicole. Just like Kendrick, Hader also has experience of acting in a Disney movie. He has provided voices for characters in many of their movies, including ‘Inside Out’, ‘The BFG’, and ‘Finding Dory’. More recently, he was the voice of Alpha 5 in the movie ‘Power Rangers’.
Another addition to the cast is Billy Eichner, although Disney has yet to clarify which role he is to play. Again, he has experience of working on a Disney movie. In the upcoming Disney remake of ‘The Lion King’, Eichner will provide the voice of Timon. This remake is being directed by Jon Favreau. If you are a fan of Billy Eichner and cannot wait until the release of Nicole to see him, you can watch him in either ‘Friends from College’, a Netflix series, or ‘American Horror Story: Cult’.
The final confirmed member of the cast is Shirley MacLaine, the sister of Warren Beaty. Disney has not released the role she will play in ‘Nicole’, but her vast experience in the movie industry will be a welcome addition.
The Writer and Director
Marc Lawrence is both the screenwriter and the director of this movie. Some of the films he has worked on previously include ‘Miss Congeniality’ and its sequel, ‘The Rewrite’, ‘Two Weeks Notice’, and ‘Life with Mikey’.
The Story
‘Nicole’ is about when Santa Claus retires and his son is supposed to take over the family business. He gets cold feet just before his first big Christmas Eve flight due to the level of responsibility that is attached to the position. Instead, his sister Nicole steps up to the plate to replace her father.
The Release
Fans of Disney movies will have a while to wait before they can watch this film as the planned release date is not until November 8, 2019. It is planned for release at this time to tie-in with the beginning of the festive season in 2019.
