Japan’s Newest Giant Gundam Is Finished and It’s Amazing

There seems to be a lot going on with robotics these days on a grand and even regular-sized manner. In some cases it seems very impressive and highly innovative, but it also raises a lot of questions. Stuff like this seems more cute and leans towards the geek and nerd in all of us no matter how little it might be, but then you think about the applications of AI and a few other choice programs that might be installed into a thing such as this. From that point on it might only need a method of locomotion and it could be up and running.

Of course that’s a lot of conjecture about a fantastical idea that is still in the works and hopefully a healthy century or more away, you know, when the world is about to end for the umpteenth time and mankind has finally gone too far. In other words around the time that a Gundam warrior can walk, fight, and think on its own then mankind would have made itself irrelevant in the world and will have escalated things to such a level that we’ve become the authors of our own demise.

The newest full-sized Gundam warrior has been unveiled in Japan and there are few words really describe just how awesome it is. The Unicorn Gundam stands a little over 64 feet tall and is seriously impressive. Given the amount of detail and the scope one would almost expect it to come to life at any moment.

Just so you can get an idea of the actual scale this is not a small man standing in front of the Gundam, and he looks almost tiny in comparison. The Gundam is simply massive and was built to replace another Gundam statue that was erected in 2012 and was taken down just this past March.  One might think such a statue would continue to stand for as long as possible but when new and more impressive things come along it seems that the new must replace the old.

If you thought it was impressive before just watch as it lights up and actually features moving parts. This seems like just another step towards giving this thing a life of its own and allowing it to get up and walk. Who knows, in another decade or two they might have one that can actually walk the length of the sidewalk and back. That would be something that might drive people wild.

If you watch a good deal of the scifi and fantasy shows and movies available that seems to be the general consensus. Either an alien race seeks to wipe us out or we engineer our own doom in some strange way that’s a one in a million chance. That could be why technology is moving so fast, simply because people see it coming, but we can certainly hope not at least.

By the time such technological terrors are present in the world it would be nice to know that  Gundam like this was more for defense than show. It’s still cool-looking though.
