Robert Kyncl is the Chief Business Officer at YouTube and is known for his great success in the streaming industry. Previously, he served as Vice President of Content Acquisitions at Netflix and brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the job. He directly oversees the marketing, sales and operations at YouTube. While this is common knowledge there is a great deal about the successful American business executive that most are not aware of. Here are five things that you probably didn’t know about him.
1. He was born outside of the United States
Kyncl is an American citizen, but he was born in the Czech republic. He spent his youth in what was formerly known as Czechoslovakia. He grew up in a mountain town in the country. He received his education in the United states where he attended State University in New York, earning his bachelor’s degree, followed by an MBA from Pepperdine University in Malibu, California.
2. He was an avid skier
When Kyncl was younger, there was little to do in the mountain town in Czechoslovakia where he grew up so he spent a lot of time on snow skis. He became very proficient at the sport and turned professional cross country skier. He shared in an interview that snow skiing wasn’t just a hobby, it was more like “a way of life.”
3. He was in the Czech republic when the iron curtain fell
Kyncl has seen a lot in his 42 years. He lived under the constraints of the iron curtain with his family and when it finally fell, he had the realization that he didn’t know much of anything except for skiing. He decided to make changes and started to learn the English language right after the major political event happened. It wasn’t long until he relocated to the United States and began attending college. He was set on getting an education in the business arena and making a career for himself in America and that is just what he did.
4. He is a family man
Kyncl is married and has two teenage daughters. They are ages 10 and 13. He and his family live in Los Angeles. In addition, his teenage nephew lives with the family. He has strong family values and is known for having a heart and a keen sense of humanity. Robert also assists with a variety of fundraisers that help to raise money for charitable causes to help people who are financially disadvantaged.
5. His first job was in Hollywood
Before Robert Kyncl became famous and wealthy, he had to find a way to support himself. He was a go getter and fresh out of business school and scouted for a job. He landed one at a Hollywood talent agency. This was a humble beginning for the now wealthy exec. It was from this start that he continued to move up the ladder in his profession, working for Netflix and then moving to YouTube where he is now delivering some impressive results. He is now known as the CBO at YouTube after making a name for himself at his previous position with Netflix, as well as being the author of “Streampunks: Youtube and the Rebels Remaking Media.” He’s well known in the fields of mass media and technology.
