Like its name states, Law & Order True Crime will be one more installment in the Law & Order franchise. However, it is interesting to note that it won’t be inspired by true crime stories like its predecessors. Instead, it will be a true crime anthology, with each season focused on a particular true crime. Recently, a trailer was released for Law & Order True Crime, though it should be noted that the true crime anthology won’t be released until some time further into the future.
For those who are curious, the first season of Law & Order True Crime will consist of eight episodes focused on Lyle and Erik Menendez. Said individuals will be played by Miles Gaston Villanueva and Gus Halper, while their defense attorney will be played by Edie Falco and the judge overseeing the trail will be played by Anthony Edwards. Naturally, Dick Wolf will be serving as one of the executive producers, though it is interesting to note that the show-runner will actually be one of the other three executive producers Rene Balcer. Some people might recognize Balcer because of his previous contributions to the Law & Order franchise, though he has worked as a director, a producer, and a writer on other TV shows as well.

Who Are Lyle and Erik Menendez?
The Menendez brothers are rather infamous. After all, they were tried for the murders of their parents in 1989, which saw them claiming to have been abused by their parents. However, the jurors did not buy their defense in the end, thus resulting in their life imprisonment with no chance of them getting parole whatsoever.
Regardless, the murders happened in 1989 when the two brothers were 18 and 21. The Menendez parents had remained at home to watch a movie because they had been exhausted by their shark fishing. It turned out that the Menendez brothers shot their father in the back of the head with a shotgun, which roused their mother enough to make a run for it. Unfortunately, the Menendez brothers managed to shoot her in the leg before moving in to shoot her multiple times more to make sure that she was dead. Afterwards, the Menendez brothers headed out and then headed home before calling the police about the two murders.
Initially, the police suspected the brothers of being the ones to commit the crimes. However, they had insufficient evidence, meaning that they never laid charges. As a result, the Menendez brothers went on to live a lavish lifestyle using their inheritance from their parents, so much so that it is said that they spent $1 million within the first six months following their crimes. Eventually, one of the Menendez brothers confessed the murders to their psychologist, who was then threatened by the other Menendez brother to keep his mouth shut.
However, the psychologist told his mistress, who told the police when the psychologist broke up with her to return to his wife. In the trial, it was ruled that the confession could be used as evidence because the Menendez brothers had been the ones who broke patient confidentiality first by threatening the psychologist. With that said, it is important to note that the real events went through further twists and turns before reaching a final resolution, which should provide Law & Order True Crime with more than enough material for watch-worthy TV.
