Why ‘Will & Grace’ Reboot is Ignoring the Series Finale

By this point in time, it has become something of a tradition for popular TV shows from the past to make a return to the TV screen. After all, they have proven themselves to be popular with a significant number of people in the past, meaning that they come with a pre-established fan base that is sure to install confidence in media executives who are concerned about their profit margins. Regardless, one example of this trend is Will & Grace, which is making a return in the form of a 16-episode season that will be broadcast on NBC during the 2017-2018 season.

Why Is Will & Grace Ignoring the Series Finale?

With that said, people who loved Will & Grace might be interested in how the new series will take shape when the finale of the past series revealed the future of the two main characters. For people who do not recall the finale in perfect detail, the finale saw both Will and Grace married to men, with both of them having had children at some point over the course of their respective marriages. However, the people behind the new Will & Grace series have stated that it will not be taking that part of the finale into consideration, which might come as welcome news to some people but not so welcome news to other people.

The reasoning for this particular choice is rather simple and straightforward. In brief,Will & Grace was successful because of the central dynamic between its two main characters, which would be changed beyond recognition if the new series had them with their families from the finale. Instead, Will and Grace will still be living together in the same home, though considering the sheer length of time that has passed since the last series both in-series and out-of-series, this should provide more than enough plotlines of its own. For the time being, it remains unknown whether the families from the finale will still be a thing in a hypothetical future from the perspective of the new series, but what we do know is that the new Will & Grace series is serious about making it seem as though continuous from its predecessor instead of slathering it onto a new concept like a bad coat of paint.

What Does the Future Hold For Will & Grace?

It is interesting to note that NBC seems to have a fair amount of faith in the new Will & Grace series. After all, it started out with a 10-episode season, which was expanded to a 12-episode season and then a 16-episode season. Furthermore, there is news that there will be a second season following the first season, which is rather impressive considering that the first season has not even been broadcast. Regardless, should Will & Grace retain its previous charm, it seems safe to say that viewers can expect more from the new series than just the initial episodes that will start broadcasting sometime in the not so distant future, which should come as welcome news to those who remember the first series with fondness.
