Superhero media has become more and more popular in recent times, as shown by not one but two shared universes that encompass movies, TV shows, video games, and other media projects. As a result, it should come as no surprise to learn that there is also plenty of interest in media projects that parodizes superhero media, meaning that it is an excellent time for The Tick to make a return to the TV screen.
For people who are unfamiliar with the franchise, The Tick started out as a comic book series in the late 1980s, which was centered around the superhero of the same name. Said individual can be recognized by a number of stand-out characteristics, with examples ranging from the bright blue costume complete with a pair of what seem to be functional antennae to his muscles, his tall build, and his huge jaw, which is of course, square in shape. Personality-wise, the Tick is better-known for his good nature, his child-like sense of wonder, and his fondness for uttering nonsensical remarks, as shown by his not-so-inspiring battle-cry of “Spoooooon!” Regardless, the Tick became popular enough that the comic book series led to an animated TV show and then a live-action TV show, which was short-lived but nonetheless well-received.
Now, a second live-action TV show is about to be released on Amazon Video in August of 2017, which has already released its pilot back in August of 2016. Something that should come as welcome news to those who remember its predecessors with fondness as well as those who are interested in a surreal sense of humor.

Ben Edlund Is Involved
Ben Edlund is the man who created the Tick when he was still a student. Since that time, he has been involved with all of The Tick adaptations, which led to a career in the TV industry. This can be seen in how he has worked on TV shows that range from Angel and Firefly to Supernatural and Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Summed up, Edlund brings an enormous amount of expertise and experience to this latest adaptation, meaning that interested individuals can trust that it is in good hands. Furthermore, this means that fans of the franchise can expect the heart of the franchise to remain unchanged.
Fresh Interpretation
The new TV show is not meant to be a one-for-one copy of its predecessors. Instead, it is darker in order to reflect the current state of superhero media, which is darker as well as more realistic than its predecessors during the 1980s and 1990s. This can be seen in how both the Tick and his eventual side-kick Arthur seem like damaged people, which seems like an interesting call-back to how the Tick was said to have been an escapee from a mental institution back in the comic book series. Regardless, this change means that viewers can expect a darker sense of humor, which may appeal to some but not others.
Arthur Was the Protagonist in the Pilot
It is possible that this was something that was unique to the pilot, but it is interesting to note that what we have seen so far suggests that Arthur is the true protagonist of the TV show. After all, while the Tick did show up multiple times in the pilot, most of the screen-time was focused on Arthur’s investigations of the criminal underworld. This might seem weird to some, but to be honest, being weird might be The Tick‘s most stand-out characteristic of all, without which The Tick would not be The Tick.
