Five Things You Didn’t Know About Alice Braga

Alice Braga, aka Alice Braga Moraes is best known in the United States for her role in the film “I am Legend” (2007) opposite Will Smith. This was her breakthrough role in the country that opened up more jobs including roles in “Predators” and “Repo Men” (2010), “The Rite” in 2011 and “Elysium” in 2013. She is perhaps best known for her role as Teresa Mendoza in the television series “Queen of the South” (2016 to current). She’s becoming a familiar face and is gaining a decent fan base, but here are five things that you didn’t know about her.

1. She is popular in Brazil

Alice Braga played the role of Angelica in the highly acclaimed “City of God,” and in 2005 as Karina in “Lower City.” She was born in the city of Sao Paulo, Brazil and this is where she began her career as an actress. Alice enjoyed popularity in her home country, appearing in many films until her break with Will Smith in the 2007 American film, “I Am Legend.”

2. She comes from a famous family

Many of her fans in the U.S. do not know that Alice Braga Moraes’ mother, Ana Braga was a successful Brazilian actress. Her aunt, Sonia Braga was as well. The two ladies would take young Alice to film sets with them. Alice’s earliest acting experiences were in school plays as well as television commercials. She began her acting career at the age of eight in a yogurt commercial.

3. Alice is trilingual

The talented actress has mastered three languages. Many Brazilians speak multiple languages. These include her native Portuguese, English and Spanish. Her debut in film was in a short titled “Trampolim” in 1998 which was written and shot in Portuguese. It wasn’t until 2006 that she made her first film in English in the movie “Journey to the End of Night” appearing with Mos Def, Brendan Fraser and Catalina Sandino Moreno.

4. Braga is homesick

Alice is currently enjoying some amazing success acting in the United States. She has made several films and has appeared in a few television series, but she still remembers where she came from. Sao Paulo is a busy city that is overcrowded with traffic, people and buildings. It isn’t a large city, but the population is dense. She confided that she isses the energy that the city exudes.

5. Braga believes in people

Alice has shared that she believes that everyone in the entertainment industry who have attained success have also achieved a level of power. Each can make a difference in the world in some way if they are willing to make the contribution. She maintains the philosophy that it is important to be helpful to others, to be caring, giving and generous with what you have. She believes in taking care of others to the best of her ability.

Alice Braga has been entertaining Americans in popular film and television series since 2006. For those of you who didn’t know, She plays the role of Sophia in “The Shack” (2017) and is set to appear in the new “X-Men: The New Mutants” film which is currently in the pre-production stage.
