Casting a Movie About Golf’s New Generation of Talent

Golf movies are not necessarily as rare as you might think. The truth is, there are quite a few movies that have been made in the past that are about golf in one capacity or another. However, there hasn’t been such a movie made in several years and there has never been one made that attempted to take a more realistic approach when it comes to the stars of golf in today’s world. People like Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler, Dustin Johnson, and Justin Day are just a few of the individuals that are shaping golf. It would be nice to see a movie made about these guys and how who are are not only making their own contributions to the sport, but who let the public into their lives via social media.

If you really want to have some fun, you can stop and think about all of the different people that could theoretically portray these individuals in a movie. The list is virtually endless, as every person will no doubt have their own idea about the actor that is most capable of portraying any of these particular individuals. Imagine, just for a minute, what it would be like to have a cast that involves Bradley Cooper, Chris Hemsworth, Ben Affleck, Zac Efron, and Robert Pattinson.

Cooper would be a perfect fit for McIlroy, with his ability to play a gritty character without losing his sense of charm. Think about Zac Efron as Jordan Spieth, complete with his bigger-than-life presence. What about the brooding Robert Pattinson as Ricky Fowler? Ben Affleck could easily play Dustin Johnson, as they seem to have similar physical characteristics and mannerisms.

Finally, try to imagine Justin Day being played by Chris Hemsworth. That mysticism he brings to the screen would be perfect in this role. It would be worth it just to see those individuals on the big screen at the same time. If you really want to take things up a notch, get Robert DeNiro to direct the film. Imagine the intensity he would bring to a project like this. Even people that really aren’t big fans of golf would probably show up to see a cast like that on the big screen. On the flip side of the coin, think about what it would be like if Steven Spielberg were directing this movie. On the other hand, it might be even more interesting if one of the actors were to direct the same movie they were starring in.

The obvious question here would be how to portray these characters in a movie. Hollywood has a habit of distorting reality, often to the point of creating an entirely new fictional story with little truth left remaining. This sometimes makes it more interesting for audiences and it’s fun from the point of telling a story, but sometimes audiences really want to know the real life struggles that people are going through in order to achieve the success that they have experienced. It might be interesting to simply portray the movie as factual as possible in order to accomplish a more realistic finished product. Of course, for the time being, all of this is nothing more than mere conjecture. However, it does provide some food for thought, especially for true golf buffs that are anxiously anticipating the next movie, whatever that might be.
