While the two have been paired on stage more than once, it’s hard to imagine Elton John and Eminem speaking to each other in a personal or even social circumstance. However, as it turns out Elton John has been a tremendous figure in Eminem’s life. In a recent interview with the Detroit Metro Times, Eminem revealed that Elton John played a significant role in getting him off of drugs.
“Me and him have had similar lives and stuff. We became friends and I talk to him about things, career-wise. When I first wanted to get sober, I called [Elton] and spoke to him about it,” Eminem said. “He’s somebody who’s in the business and can identify and relate to the lifestyle and how hectic things can be. He understands … the pressure and any other reasons that you want to come up with for doing drugs. I reached out to him and told him, ‘Look, I’m going through a problem and I need your advice.’
Looks like the advice has truly paid off as Eminem has been clean for a while now. However, I will say this. Whatever reasoning he had for growing his new beard, there’s no way I can believe he was sober while making that decision.
